Stress hormones don’t just suppress #inflammation, they tune it! Kirsten Kenney and Sabrina Burgener (@s-burgener.bsky.social) review how endogenous #glucocorticoids cross-talk with innate immune signalling, from pattern recognition receptors to #inflammasomes. Open access: doi.org/10.1042/BSR2...

Fig. 6 Summary of findings. In sepsis, inflammasomes activation promotes the cleavage of caspase-1 and the extracellular release of its p20 subunit through GSDMD-dependent membrane processes. This release may occur in association with GSDMD pore formation as well as membrane disruption during lytic cell death (pyroptosis). Once released, eCasp-1 acts as a potent DAMP. Therapeutic intervention
with the inhibitory peptide C16, which specifically target
eCasp-1, effectively attenuates systemic inflammation, ALI,
and improves survival outcomes. Acute lung injury, ALI;
compound 16, C16; gasdermin-D, GSDMD; extracellular
caspase-1, eCasp-1; damage-associated molecular pattern,
