Dawson chairs the Iowa Senate Ways and Means Committee and was one of six GOP senators to vote no on the bill to allow a huge tax giveaway for a proposed steel mill in southeast Iowa.

Latino voters are a significant bloc in some Iowa legislative districts, including House district 52 (Marshalltown, which Ds lost in 2024 and are trying to win back) and Senate district 1 (Sioux City, which Caitlin Drey flipped in 2025 and Dems need to hold). #ialegis

The premise of Joe Mitchell's ad is strange too. The GOP nominee in #IA02 was born and raised in southeast Iowa, represented that area in #ialegis, lived in Des Moines (central Iowa) for several years, and only moved to northeast Iowa in September 2025.
