You cut the quote at the decisive point. Your own citation continues: "(no meat, fish, milk, cheese, eggs, nuts, bread, or soya products) plus a synthetic, phenylalanine-free medical food-formula." Nuts and soy are the vegan protein base. Cleveland Clinic: "A PKU diet isn't like being a vegan — people with PKU can't eat many of the foods that vegans can, including legumes, nut butters and soy products." And the modern PKU protein source, glycomacropeptide, is derived from cheese whey — dairy. PKU patients can't eat a normal omnivore diet either; they survive on medical nutrition therapy. That's inability, not inconvenience. You're right that other conditions are merely supervision cases — fair. But PKU, MSUD, hereditary fructose intolerance, multi-trigger FPIES and short bowel syndrome aren't. And I'll consider the victims as you ask — the Vegan Society's own definition does too: veganism excludes animal exploitation "as far as is possible and practicable." That clause is my whole point.
