The views, however, were not too shabby. đ„° And the rest of the day is told quickly: HĂ€ssleholm, ĂresundstĂ„g, Malmö and another PĂ„gatĂ„gen to lovely Ystad, where this day ended.

And while somebody happily ticks off another line on his map, I have to rant: These PĂ„gatĂ„gen trains. Seriously?! How much do you hate your passengers?! This so incredibly bad and I can't get my head around the fact, that this exists in the same country as the Regina. Terrible! đ€ź
#HullerOmBullar
Markaryd, a rather bare station serving as terminus for the PÄgatÄgen services from HÀsslehom, reinstated in 2013. While it is good, that there's a train again, let's not talk about the timetable...
#HullerOmBullar
These southern fake Regina cruelly miss a Kiosk, so I had to stock up on coffee at Halmstad while changing to a lÀnstrafik bus. Of course, all perfectly timed for a photo with the SJ Regina running parallel to the bus.
#HullerOmBullar
Back at the station and on to the next Regina.
... Wait, what..?! đ€š
Hear me out: Take a closer look at these ĂresundstĂ„g trains. While they borrowed elements from the Danish IC3, it's obvious that they must be based on the same platform as the Reginas. They also sound similar.

Göteborg. Again. đ Never miss a chance to ride an M29! So we didn't. And sourced some bullar, while we were there.
#HullerOmBullar
On to the next train, which - surprise - was a Regina again! Who came up with this programme?! đ
And as this is kind of a long-distance-ish regional service, it of course features a "Kiosk". đ„° Which of course had to be visited. Sorry, I don't make the rules.

After a last night at our stuga, it was time to face the inevitable: We had to start our way back Home. đ„Č Last ride on VĂ€rmlandsbanan in a Regina to Karlstad. This was a busy commuter service, meaning that about a third of the seats were taken!
#HullerOmBullar
To comply with the hashtag, it was about time for a fika, before we strolled through Arvika, which is indeed quite a contrast to Charlottenberg. And, purely coincidental of course, we even managed a railway photo. Not the picture of the year, though.
#HullerOmBullar
Same vibe at the station. Huge old building with new platforms, but still a bit unloved. The last pints in the Lochlann Pub were probably served quite some time ago. In the waiting room, a man who is surely not waiting for the next train, stares at the wall. We took the bus back.
#HullerOmBullar
Charlottenberg. Quite a vibe here! đŹ Most shops relocated to the insanely huge shopping centres outside of town at the main road from Norway, leaving behind empty premises. There nearly nobody out on the streets this afternoon, so it almost feels a bit like a ghost town. đ»
#HullerOmBullar
For such a rural area, train and bus services are really good, which makes the VĂ€rmlandsbanan an ideal destination for us. Also the freight traffic seems to be pretty regular, we noticed similar trains as yesterday, at similar times. Noted for next time. đ
#HullerOmBullar
This thread still misses the last bit. Here we go: A rather boring grey sky awaited us the next morning. Photo motivation was minimal, so we spent the morning planning our way back home and the afternoon with a short trip to Charlottenberg, last town before the RiksgrĂ€nsen đžđȘ/đłđŽ.
#HullerOmBullar
A very quick walk to the station to catch the next Regina "home": A short, but absolutely wonderful trip on the quiet train through this beautiful landscape during the blue hour. What a perfect way to end the day! đ
#HullerOmBullar
But nevertheless: The light was insane! đ
#HullerOmBullar
The train left Kil, the last stop, perfectly on time as the shadows grew quickly. And then, two stations away from us, it stopped. For no reason. 1 Minute, 2, 3... Not much, but these 3 mins of delay were enough for the shadows to cover nearly all of the dam. Arrgh, we were so close!
#HullerOmBullar
All afternoon, we've been monitoring the oncoming Stockholm-Oslo service. If it was perfectly on time, it would pass the dam in the last 2 or 3 minutes before sunset. These trains aren't the most punctual ones, but as 1409 showed it even ahead of time, we decided to give it a try. đŹ
#HullerOmBullar
The most exciting train of the evening, the Intercity from Oslo, runs in the opposite direction - which required a shot against the light. This wouldn't work with the dam, so we looked for another spot. And again: These trains are perfect for lighting conditions like this. đ„°

It was so quiet, that you could hear voices from very far away and some deer got quite close, when we followed the path down to the lake. A beautiful corner, but what it needs is a long train. Needless to say, there weren't any. No freight, not even a 3-car Regina.
#HullerOmBullar
VĂ€rmlamdsbanan passes along and across (!) of a number of lakes between Kil and the border. Of course, we wanted to capture this typical scene in a photograph, so we made our way throuh a clearing down to the lakeside. The sun came back and the day evolved into a very quiet evening.
