FUN FACT: It is not against the rules in the House "to engage in personalities" with respect to members of the Cabinet.

Hello, Secretary Nutlick. Whiskey Pete Hegseth. Discount Goebbels Stephen Miller.

Whether using "Trumpola" for Trump Admin grifting would be OK, I don't know.

Any word on whether congressional leaders –
1) are set on convening the 120th Congress on Jan 3, 2027,
2) are planning to change the date b/c that's on a Sunday, or
3) haven't considered it either way?

HOT TAKE: Should the House ever decide to impeach Jared Kushner Trump, at least one article of impeachment should include at least one charge of "Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors" from his conduct during Trump I – ie, when he was a federal employee.

Constitution, Article II, SECTION 4 –

The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.

… a H/S decision to count/not count ballots after a state did the opposite would ~depend on which party already held the majority and whether it would help them. Iow, that process ~wouldn't change which party held the majority, but it could change the size of the majority's margin.

Yes, though I wouldn't blame any member of the public for thinking otherwise.

As that contest was over an election that took place in 1804, and the decision was not only to count late-arriving votes despite their flipping the "apparent outcome", but also to count them despite state law saying they should not be counted, I wonder how Alito would like those 🍏🍏🍏. 😳

Yes, I think I did. And as is very/too often the case (😄/🤦🏻‍♂️), I'd forgotten - here, forgotten having done it in that context.

Yes, Judge Luttig gets the House procedural details right. And where he notes that, even with a court order, the Clerk might ignore it, he's right there, too –

Oh, so it's not just an in-America problem?

FUN FACT: Kristi Noem is still subject to impeachment.*

(* – there is also a good argument she would be subject to impeachment even if not currently holding a federal office – ie, as the "Late Secretary of Homeland Security")

From Wikipedia, photo of Kristi Noem. The text beneath it -

When a Democratic House passes a bill 272 - 91 (after adopting the rule 294 - 59), a Republican Senate passes it by voice vote, and a Republican president signs it, that's what's called a "bipartisan bill" – iow, it's "100% on" everybody.

"AI, can you help me with 'whip round'?"

#British_English #HRules

AI response –

No, it's not related to legislative "whipping."

In politics, a whip (or "party whip") is an official who organises MPs/peers and pressures them to vote the party line. Phrases like "removing the whip" mean suspending someone from the parliamentary party.

A whip round (or whip-round) is an entirely different British informal expression. It means a quick, informal collection of money from a group of people-essentially "passing the hat" to buy a gift, cover a cost, or help someone out.

The two terms share a distant historical root in the hunting term whipper-in" (the person who keeps the hounds together with a whip), but they diverged long ago and mean completely different things today. In the article, Lee Anderson is clearly using the money-collection sense as a joke about buying a new walking stick.
