A somber, cinematic scene shows a young girl kneeling in dark, churned earth beneath a hazy amber sky. She occupies the center-left of the image, her body bent forward and her head lowered so that tangled brown hair obscures much of her face. She wears a once-elegant white dress with translucent layers of tulle and delicate shoulder details, now heavily stained with soil, ash, and debris. One dirty hand presses into the ground for support while she leans toward a single pale green shoot emerging upright from the barren earth. Two narrow leaves open near its tip, making the tiny plant the brightest and most delicate element near the foreground. Behind the girl on the left stands the skeletal remains of a damaged house, its roof and upper structure partially exposed against the smoky sky. The low sun glows through mist near the right horizon, bathing the landscape in muted peach and sepia light. Fine glowing particles drift through the air like ash or embers. The surrounding ground is rough, dark, and apparently lifeless, emphasizing the fragile new growth at the girl's fingertips.
