Tagebucheintrag vom 2. Oktober 1938 Einen halben Tag lang meinte ich, nun müsste der Mut zum Selbstmord aufgebracht werden. Dann kam wieder der alte Zustand: Stumpfheit, Wartenwollen, der Ausspruch der Krügerin: »Ihnen ist so vieles geblieben, Lebenswille und doch auch wieder Hoffnung. Jede Stunde kann Änderung bringen, jede Stunde, in der man noch lebt. « Aber wenn mich Muschelchen nachts weckt und ich kann nicht gleich wieder einschlafen, dann ist es schrecklich. Trotzdem: weiter, und nicht an das nächste Morgen gedacht.Diary entry on October 2, 1938 For half a day I thought, now one must find the courage for suicide. Then the old state of mind returned: apathy, waiting to see what happens, Johanna Krüger's observation: "You still have so much, the will to live, and hope too once again. Every hour can bring change, every hour in which one is still alive." But when little Muschel wakes me up in the night and I cannot fall asleep again immediately, then it's terrible. Nevertheless: on I go, and no thought of the next morning.
