Happy #WorldOctopusDay! 🐙

We love all #Ocean life, but octopuses are close to our hearts. Meet Octavia, our #RaceforRatification mascot, who cheered the #HighSeasTreaty all the way to international law.

Next stop: #BBNJCOP1, and putting the Treaty to work to protect species like her.

As it stands, only 12% of the #Ocean will be protected by 2030.

The latest Ocean Protection Gap Report identifies the major actions needed to put the world on track for 30x30, noting the opportunity presented by the implementation of the #HighSeasTreaty.

A graphic from "Together for the Ocean" shows two bar charts comparing land and marine protection. One chart highlights over 30 countries with at least 30% of land protected. The other indicates only 16 countries reporting the same for marine and coastal areas. Text emphasizes the need for governments to accelerate ocean protection efforts.

🌊 Canada has officially ratified the #HighSeasTreaty.

A major step for ocean conservation.

But the work isn't done. Protecting marine wildlife means reducing the impacts of shipping, underwater noise and other pressures in Canadian waters and beyond.

Migratory ray species travel across the #Ocean, facing threats from industrial fishing.

The #HighSeasTreaty can ensure effective protection of critical migratory corridors & biological hotspots on the #HighSeas by establishing MPAs and aligning with existing international frameworks. #WorldMantaDay
