Heute vor 87 Jahren berichtet Variety (4. Oktober 1939) über einen Auftritt des aus Wien vertriebenen Hermann Leopoldi im Café Alt Wien in New York. "Leopoldi is another, of course, who attests to the tragic axiom that Nazidom's loss becomes the world's gain."

"As the name implies, Alt Wien harks back to Old Vienna, before anschluss, dictators and other world nuisances with successfully Hermann Leopoldi recapturng all the charm and nostalgia with which the Austrian capital had long been associated. Leopoldi is the Viennese
songsmith who, when first hitting thesshores some months
ago, knelt on the ground and kissed the pavements in appreciation of newfound liberty. Leopoldi was a favorite Austrian music hall and coffee-house performer and songwriter, having written tunes with Dr. Robert Katscher (published by the late Herzmanski, himself a refugee) and already some of his stuff is beginning to get around on this side. He is a definite personality, a cross between the late Nikita Balieft and Lord Beaverbrook, the British publisher, in appearance and stature,
and a vibrant figure at his piano despite his still awkward English manner of expression. He is a capital conferencier and song salesman and, in this, he is ably abetted by Beatrice Lind, a young personality soprano. (...) Attesting to Leopoldi's innate showmanship is a careful eschewing of any sentimentality, letting the songs and charm fall where they may, based on basic merit alone. (...) Leopoldi is another, of course, who attests to the tragic axiom that Nazidom's loss becomes the world's gain."

"Leopoldi Brings a Breath of the Gay Past to Detroit". Heute vor 84 Jahren berichtet die Detroit Free Press (28 September 1942) über einen Auftritt des von den Nazis in die USA vertriebenen Entertainers Hermann Leopoldi und seiner kongenialen Partnerin Helly Möslein.

"He is a man of immense vitality and of overflowing good humor who has an amazing facility at the piano keyboard, The big concert grand which he used was an inseparable part of his performance as Chaplin's famous stick was of his. He used it, not only to play very excellent Strauss waltzes, but to point a witty passage. It was like a plaything in
his hands.
The songs he sang were mainly in the Viennese dialect, which bears to high German somewhat the relation that Scottish does to English. Even those who had little knowledge of the language found huge enjoyment in the songs, for Leopoldi has the ability to speak and sing universally."
