The NOAA SWPC model for the M1.4 CME has been published, and it predicts a glancing blow at Earth around 1 UT on Friday October 9. Here is a summary of the model, the predicted solar wind stats around the time of the CME impact, and time zone conversions for North American chaers.
Saw this elsewhere, anyone here going to #AGU this year?

NASA's fall balloon campaign ended with a CORSAIR/WASP reflight from Fort Sumner, N.M., on Oct. 5. It reached about 102,000 ft and flew 8 h 28 min, testing a Sun corona payload for a possible Antarctica mission.

Wow! Check out this incredible new view of Earth. The first images from ESA's SMILE mission are out, and this ultraviolet footage shows an auroral substorm spreading around the entire northern auroral oval on July 24, seen from high above the North Pole.
Here it comes... the large coronal hole is almost directly facing Earth now, which means fast solar wind is 3-4 days away. In fact, NOAA SWPC has just issued a G1/minor storm watch for Oct 2. This means there are chances for mid-latitude auroral displays Thu and Fri nights.
Here it comes... maybe! NOAA SWPC has weighed in on the Earth-directed CME which is currently predicted to impact around Oct 2 at 9 UT. This is a bit later than NASA M2M's prediction of 3 UT but still within the uncertainty of +/- 7 hr for these models.
Heads up: a large filament just lifted off near the Sun's western limb. Most of it is heading away from Earth, but some of the material looks to have twisted around and may be directed along the Sun-Earth line. We'll see how much may be aimed towards us as we get more data...
The moon has been found to have thousands of volts on its surface when the Moon is in the Earths magneto tail due to induction.

For those who are interested, I have created a plot of last night's epic substorm over Fairbanks with accompanying data from GOES Mag, Kp/Hp 30, and solar wind. The onset time of the substorm (when you want to be outside to catch the whole thing) is marked by the dashed line.
So much for this CME, at least for now... we have been inside a strange, twisted flux rope where the Bz is almost entirely positive. This has suppressed geomagnetic activity. If the Bz was mostly NEGATIVE instead, G1 conditions might have occured.

🔭 Flashback with us to the wonderful time we had at the 5th Eddy Symposium. This spring scientists, engineers, early-career researchers, & thought leaders from around the world for cross-disciplinary discovery in the world of heliphysics.
A preliminary model from NASA M2M has been ran for this CME: Impact slated for Sep 8 around 1840 UT (140 pm CDT; bad timing). The impact is a glancing blow and timing/severity of impact (if at all) will be complicated due to other CMEs in the path.
This CME has not yet been modeled, but early coronagraph images look promising. A C5 flare occured around 1042 UT this morning (Sep 6). At least a partial halo is emerging in CCOR-1, maybe with some slower legs filling out soon. Images are still coming in. Another CME to watch!
