Built a voice synth for Shin KoiKoi that confidently read 明智日向守 as ‘Mamoru’ — a given name. The historical reading is ‘no kami’. The model was fine; we hadn’t checked its reading list. Caught by inspecting /audio_query’s accent_phrases output. #godot #gamedev #hanafuda

The game is named after its riskiest moment. You've just scored a yaku in Shin KoiKoi. You could stop and bank the points — or say 'koi koi': keep playing, bet it all. If your opponent scores first, you forfeit double. That one call gave the game its name.

People ask what game Shin KoiKoi's scoring borrows from. The yaku — Gokou, Sanko, Aka-tan, Ao-tan, Tane-zaku — come from Edo-period hanafuda rules. Nothing in modern games uses them because they predate modern games.
