We did good work here - 747 votes for #Putnisite over 289 for #Hafnon - kinda feel bad for hafnon....
But how are you gonna feel in the (probably) calcite/putnisite match up???

If you haven't voted in round 9 of the #MinCup26, the matchup is between Hafnon and Putnisite. There are 45 minutes left to vote! https://www.mineralcup.org/2026/vote-results/vote-r1m09
I went with #Hafnon. It's a mineral involving hafnium. That […]
In today's #MinCup26 duell it is #Hafnon against #Putnisite we didn't know either of them, but we see that the #mineral Hafnon has a simple formula Hf[SiO4]. Just simple enough for our humans😽 and that it is the only known mineral with #Hafnium as main ingredient🙀
#DoesItCat ? Yes🐾
This is a zircon stan account, so we've gotta show some love to its geochronology pal, #hafnon!
I am told I should vote for #Hafnon because the photo "looks like a doge."
Oligarch leader of Venice? Yeah, sure, I see the resemblance.
I love that #Hafnon is the only hafnium-containing mineral, but as an Australian polyamorous non-binary bisexual I simply must vote for the purple #Putnisite. I mean, 'These tiny purple cubes are a rare hydrated strontium-calcium-chromium sulfate-carbonate with hydroxide ions' SAME THO #MinCup26.
The ONLY mineral with Hafnium as a main component. Also, one of the few whose name doesn't end with -ite.
And I was repeatedly reading Putnisite as parasite, so that's a sign, I guess.
So I'll have to take Hafnon as Zr and Hf are the elements I worked with to mock up the chemistry of their heavy homolog Rutherfordium.
Of the latter I saw barely 300 atoms, so I guess whether #Rutherfordon is isotyp to Hafnon, must remain an open question. However, #Hafnon it is today. #mincup
Today, #MinCup26 R1M9 sees #Putnisite and #Hafnon competing. Although Hafnon as the only Hafnium mineral is impressive, I will be rooting for #Putnisite and the reason is very personal: 🧵1/4

Somebody persuade me which of these very esoteric minerals to vote for please! #Hafnon, pretending to be zircon in pegmatites, or pretty purple volcanic #putnisite? #MinCup26
I'm puttin' aside #Putnisite's pretty purple appeal and voting for #Hafnon based on its fans claims of its importance to science
I’m a sucker for purple, and Australia is always attractive, but I give the nod to #Hafnon, in honor of Mendeleev, because Hafnium was one of those holes in his table that wasn’t filled for more than 50 years.
Judging from the results so far, hafnon could use some love, so add your vote to mine!
Putnisite is stunning but my vote tonight goes to #hafnon for its extreme temp performance & aerospace applications 🚀 (Also, it doesn’t sound like ‘Putin.’)
#MinCup26 Round 1 Match 9:
It’s a pair of tiny minerals with unusual chemistry as hafnium-containing #Hafnon battles with strontium/chromium-containing #Putnisite.
