Bel Canto by Ann Patchett (2001)

A weird one for me. Beautifully written & thoughtful. I have a feeling that if I was studying this book in an English class, I'd fall in love with it. I have this problem w audio sometimes--some writing styles are difficult to process

A Fatal Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum by Emma Southon (2021)

We all know Rome was a nasty imperialist conqueror but MAN were the Romans bloodthirsty shitbags at home too. Makes you side-eye the deferent use of their ripped-off architecture in our civic buildings.

Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl (1946)--rr

A gem! I've had to grieve my own life & functioning--finding meaning in this changed EVERYTHING for me. That said, I believe we must be v careful & avoid choice language around trauma, choice isn't always present.

Mansfield Park by Jane Austen (1814)

People tend to dog on Fanny Price for being a wet blanket, but I absolutely adore this principled & serious young person. While I don't agree with her on absolutely everything, she's rooted in her core values & v underestimated. Team Fanny Price!

The Creature from Jekyll Island by G. Edward Griffin (2018)

I strongly disagree w Griffin's bootstraps values but I found a lot of v useful info here about what the federal reserve is, how billionaires operate, and how money moves internationally. Just look at the world.

An Echo in the Bone by Diana Gabaldon (2009)--rr

LJG is one of my fav literary characters of all time & I 💛 how he was folded into the main series. And ofc, there's that last hour or so... *swoon*... MESSY. Immaculate hurt/comfort trope which we all know #Outlander excels at

Pagan & Christian Creeds by Edward Carpenter (1920)

FASCINATING. His theory that a planetary consciousness is translated by diff cultures & by power into religion (w diff facets prioritized or overlooked) really resonated. Some dated language & framing--note pub date

Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke (2026)

I really struggled thru the first half. After spoiling I enjoyed the 2nd half more, but smth is really rubbing me the wrong way about this book. It feels preachy on a meta level & unevenly baked. Glad I finished it tho--it made me think
