#Hacking #Hacktivism

1995 - One of the pivotal moments in the #history of #hacktivism, "net.strikes" against French government websites carried out by voluntary human "botnets" comprised of people hitting browser refresh manually at times arranged on usenet & email mailing lists by activists who opposed nuclear testing.

PARIS To discourage France from testing nuclear weapons deep beneath the emer- ald surf of the South Pacific, Seishi Shimizu surfed the Internet.
So did more than 43,000 other people from 92 countries who signed an electronic petition con- demning French plans to resume underground tests next month at Mururoa Atoll in French Polynesia.
"We want to gather all the murmuring voices against the tests from all over the world and make them into a big movement," said Shimizu, 23, one of three Tokyo University graduate stu- dents who launched the protest over the computer network's World Wide Web.
On Sunday, when the world. marked the 50th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, about 2,000 protesters rallied near the Eiffel Tower to protest the government decision to resume tests.
Protesters chanted anti- nuclear slogans and waved signs and homemade banners. One poster by the environmental group Greenpeace said simply, "Hiro- chirac," in a swipe at President Jacques Chirac.
Chirac says seven or eight more blasts are needed to develop computer simulations of explo- sions, making further testing unnecessary. He promises to sign a test ban treaty next year.
But his decision has triggered opposition in France and around the world.
About 62 percent of the French think the tests should be canceled, according to a Harris poll pub- lished Sunday in the Votre Dimanche newspaper. No margin of error was given for the survey of 1,000. Similar polls generally have a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percent.
Environmentalists say the tests are needless and dangerous to the region, known for its crystal waters and pristine beaches. For- eign governments are slapping France with economic boycotts. Australia will put political pressure on France until it aban- dons the test plans, Foreign Minis- ter Gareth Evans said Sunday. He said France's statement that it might set off only seven, not eight, blasts was not enough.

NoName057(16) seem to be branching out more into little AI generated media posting, if you’ve ever discussed #hacktivism with me you’ll have probably heard me say “DDoS is pretty boring to look at”, screenshots of 404 webpage errors just aren’t inspiring. These videos are presumably to counter that.
