Feedback from last year's #GRFP cycle have come out, two weeks prior to this year's deadline.

Applicants receive 4 ratings (good, very good, excellent) on their Intellectual Merit and Broader Impacts, and are told which Application Band they fall under. No reviewer comments were given this cycle.

Application Band Definition Band 1 Highest-ranked 20% of applicant pool Band 2 Second-ranked 20% of applicant pool Band 3 Third-ranked 20% of applicant pool Band 4 Fourth-ranked 20% of applicant pool Band 5 Fifth-ranked 20% of applicant poolQuality ratings given for Intellectual Merit and Broader Impacts, one per reviewer. For my privacy, I shared one line (of four) of my own - "Very Good" and "Very Good" from one reviewer.

As a former #NSF #GRFP I got an email asking about participating in the review process.

But what I would like to know is the extent to which decisions are based on scientific merits vs political considerations.

We’re living in a time where unfortunately this needs to be explicitly clarified.
