While wandering along Southcroft St in Govan the other week, I spied this bit of ornate metalwork attached to the tenement. I immediately thought there must have been a pawn shop here at one point, and started searching on my phone.

Love these intricately sculpted column captials on Salmon, Son and Gillepsie's 1899 Glasgow Style British Linen Bank on Govan Road in Glasgow. Created by Francis Derwent Wood, the capitals feature a variety of activities, such as beekeeping, navigation and fishing.

A couple more shots from Southcroft St in Govan last Friday. Firstly, a satisfying sweep of oriel windows heading towards Govan Rd, and then looking the opposite direction back towards Vicarfield St.

Glasgow weather in a nutshell 😂 The long, unbroken tenements of Southcroft St in Govan are illuminated by the sun as an ominous sky brews in the distance. This is one of the few fragments of tenement housing left in this part of Govan.

Just inside the entrance is a greeting which says: "This is a House of Friendship. This is a House of Service. For Families, For Lonely Folk. For the People of Govan. For the Strangers of the World. Welcome."

That's an average of over 3,400 crossings per day. All in all, I think this bridge can be considered a major success, and that it's now an important part of the city's transport infrastructure. It also offers great photo opportunities!
