Meant as the next big thing, Linebacker failed to replace the Mad Cat. But years later it stopped being judged for its origins, and started being seen for what it could do.

Stop comparing yourself to those who came before. Find a way as yourself.

Linebacker. This 65-ton Clan OmniMech has a top speed of 97 kph, letting it keep up with the high-speed Clan maneuvers of the Invasion era and beyond. Ten tons of ferro-fibrous armor keep it relatively safe, and the pilot has 17.5 tons of pod space to work with.

In the Prime configuration, two ER PPCs in the arms make its main weapons, backed up by a Streak SRM-4 and an LRM-5, along with an emotional support ER Small Laser. 14 Double Heat Sinks try to keep it cool.

Linebacker was meant to replace the aging Timber Wolf, but its reduced pod space and its origins from Natasha Kerensky and Phelan Ward left it tainted in many Clanners' eyes. It lingered as a back-lines unit until Alaric Ward ordered it back to mass production during the ilClan era, when it finally became the workhorse it had been designed to be.

Introduced when everything was going wrong, no one had time to fix Tomahawk. Yet it was still popular with pilots, and it led to new advancements.

It can feel like you never get the timing right. It just means you haven't gotten it right _yet_.

Tomahawk, a prototype Assault 'Mech. (Actually this is an image of the production-model Tomahawk II...no images exist of the original Tomahawk). This 100-ton Assault OmniMech had the makings of greatness, but was still stuck in the "teething problems" phase of development during the Blakist Kerfuffle Era. It never entered production, but after the Blakists were dealt with, Clan Wolf revisited the design, ultimately making the popular Tomahawk II.

The 'Mech's 300XL engine drives it to a relatively tame top speed of 54 kph. In its alpha configuration, the Tomahawk carries twin Gauss Rifles and two ER Large Lasers, backed up by two Medium Pulse lasers, two Streak SRM-4's, an anti-missile system, and an ECM suite. Twelve Double Heat Sinks do their best to manage the heat.

Not a 'Mech for the superstitious, Cadaver moves quickly into a fight, but often ends up outgunned. Yet Cadaver uses every trick to keep its pilot safe, making sure they get home.

Stand strong, but take care of yourself. Remember there's tomorrow.

CVR-A1 Cadaver. This 30-ton 'Mech comes with a lot of gadgets, including a 240 XL engine pushing it to a top speed of 129.8 kph. Weapons are limited to a pair of ER Medium Lasers, a Flamer, and an MRM 10. A Guardian ECM suite, CASE II, 6 tons of Ferro-Fibrous armor, and a full-head ejection system, keep the pilot relatively safe for a Light 'Mech.

Cadaver was made through an unlikely agreement between the Taurian Concordat and the Raven Alliance. It's most commonly seen in those groups, though thanks to Clan Sea Fox you can find Cadavers around the Inner Sphere.

A 'Mech no one asked for in response to a problem no one wanted, Bowman was changed until it was nothing like its original design. But Bowman is still a solid Heavy with impressive firepower.

Keep moving forward, even if it means changing direction.

Bowman. This 70-ton Clan 'Mech has 12.5 tons of armor and a top speed of 86 kph, impressive for an artillery platform. It was made to carry Arrow IV launchers, never a favorite weapon system among the Clans. The original Bowman carried paired Arrow IV launchers and nothing else, making it so unpopular it was retooled into this model. One of the Arrow IV launchers was dropped so the 'Mech can carry an LRM-20 and three ER Medium Lasers, in addition to four AP Pods. These are meant as backup weapons, since it still carries a single Arrow IV launcher with four tons of ammo, letting it bring a lot of pain if you can find a Clan Warrior willing to pilot it.

Later versions would drop the Arrow IV launcher completely to carry more conventional weapons, ranging from another LRM-20 to a HAG/20 and an ATM 9.

Stiletto was a lackluster copy of a more advanced 'Mech, handicapped with ammo restrictions. But Stiletto found its way as designers learned what worked and what didn't.

You might start by copying, but don't stop there. Make it your own.

#battletech #GoodFeelsFriday

STO-4A Stiletto. Based on the Fire Falcon in the same way the Rakshasa is based off the Mad Cat, this little 35-tonner has a respectable top speed of 129 kph. 6 tons of CASE-equipped Ferro-Fibrous armor and a Guardian ECM keep it safe enough to do hit-and-run attacks. A single LRM-5 and a pair of Streak SRM-2 launchers make up its entire weapon list, and with only one ton of LRM and Streak SRM ammo total, Stiletto has to stay close to supply lines.

Later models would improve based on criticism from the original, replacing the missile launchers with lasers to give it impressive striking power.
