You lowered your hand. Something in the glass didn’t.

$A large, vertically framed mirror dominates a deteriorating tiled room. Its tarnished gold frame has elaborate curling ornaments at the corners and along the upper and lower edges. The glass is clouded with gray streaks, grime, and scratches. Centered high within it, a tall apparition wears a translucent white veil that falls around its narrow body. Its exposed face resembles a skull, with deeply shadowed eyes, a small dark nasal cavity, and an open mouth lined with uneven teeth. Long black strands trail from its mouth down its chest. Two softly blurred, pale figures with long blond hair occupy the foreground, one on either side of the mirror. Both wear loose, distressed white garments and bow their heads. The left figure extends an open hand toward the center at waist height, palm upward. A separate pinkish hand appears against the mirror farther back, held upright with its fingers spread beneath the veiled apparition. Cold light pours diagonally from the upper right, illuminating suspended haze and washing the right figure’s hair and shoulder in silver. The left side remains in green-gray shadow. Cracked plaster rises above the tiled walls, a narrow doorway stands at the far left, and fractured floor tiles lead toward the mirror’s ornate base. The sharp, skeletal face looms above the indistinct foreground figures.
