An apple a day keeps hyperphagia at… actually, wait. Never mind. Bring more apples. 😂🍎🐻

Our Black Bear cubs are packing on the pounds for winter and their return to the wild. Thanks to our amazing community for helping fuel those big fall appetites!

Fall migration is underway! 🐦 Tiny songbirds may travel hundreds or thousands of miles, much of it at night. Artificial light can disorient them, wasting precious energy and increasing window strikes. Help these travelers through our area: turn off unnecessary lights at night! 🌙

🥁 And the answer to yesterday's "Guess the Animal"...

...an American Mink!

If you regularly follow us you might have recognized this sound! This little mink was recently released back to the wild, but not without making it VERY clear when it was time to eat during its time with us!

It’s Freedom Friday! 🐍 After nearly a month in care recovering from lacerations caused by a cat encounter, this gorgeous Garter Snake is back in the wild. Not every release is dramatic. Sometimes, we just open the lid and let curiosity take over!

We feel like these three are definitely up to something. If this were the opening scene of a movie, what would the title be? 🎬🦝

Give us your best movie titles or captions for this video!

Meet a recent patient, a Western Bluebird! These birds, common to our area, are “secondary cavity nesters,” meaning they use cavities created by primary cavity nesters like woodpeckers, then make their own additions. Quite the clever strategy!

🔊 WARNING: LOUD SOUND! What better way to survive Monday than with a very squeaky American mink who has VERY strong opinions about the camera we left nearby? 😂 After rehab and monitoring, this tiny patient is back where they belong: the wild! 🌿

Keep your eyes to the sky! Not all Turkey Vultures migrate, but millions do, with southward migration peaking late Sept.–mid Oct.

In Northern California, you may spot them overhead! Near Auburn, CA? Grab some binoculars and try Overlook Park above the American River Canyon.

Thank you to everyone who jumped in to help the fawns in our care wean off formula. Your donations (as you can see here!) are making a difference!

Since yesterday, we’ve welcomed a fawn, a roof rat, a gray fox, and multiple Mourning Doves into care. Apparently, the theme for this week is a little bit of everything... which, come to think of it, is pretty much the theme every week around here!

Check out today’s numbers! 🐾 🌲

🥁 And the answer to yesterday's "Guess the Animal"...

...a young Barn Owl!

This adorably goofy juvenile Barn Owl was found on the ground next to a sibling who unfortunately didn't make it. This lucky little one is doing well, and has a great appetite which we love to see!
