Argiope aurantia
Gardenia, the Garden spider. Also called a Writing spider.

She has trapped her prey (insect?) and wrapped it in silk. She bites it and inject a venom which liquifies the prey. She can then suck up the contents.

She catches grasshoppers on a good day. #orbweaver #spider #gardenspider

Large garden spider guarding the center of her web. She's black with yellow markings and her legs are orange and black. In the background, out-of-focus purple asters and yellow goldenrod provide color. It looks to be a warm sunny day in the late summertime.
