#GarageRockTober: The Gants - formed in 1963/64 in Greenwood MS, Sid Herring, Johnny Sanders, Vince Montgomery and Don Wood had gigged around town, had a couple of almost regional hits esp. their take on “Roadrunner”, released 3 LPs but eventually broke up. 1/2

#GarageRockTober: The Buzzards, Detroit, MI 1999 Joe “Dirty” Burdick and Maribel Restrepo of the Detroit Cobras, plus the Paterra twins Leslie & Nancy and Nick Lloyd on drums. Gigs followed, rock was made. The single “You Got Me Down” documented the band’s place in the garage rock pantheon.

#GarageRockTober: Guitar Wolf - Formed by Seiji, Billy and Narita in Harajuku, Japan in ‘87. Transformed into Guitar Wolf, Bass Wolf, Drum Wolf, inspired by Link Wray, they created a new genre called “Jet Rock”. 1994 saw 3 LPs from Guitar Wolf, and they are still the #1 Jet Rock band in the world.

At 1 a.m. after 8 failed takes, Rose took to the mic and tore the hinges off - “The Rat’s Revenge” part 1 and 2 were born.1/2

They opened for The Yardbirds, Jefferson Airplane and 13th Floor Elevators. Dave Fore left to join Bubble Puppy, and the rest is history. 10/5

#GarageRockTober - The Loved Ones “Surprise, Surprise” Knoxville, TN, ‘66, Terry Johnson, Barry “Byrd” Burton, Doug Graham & Mike Coyner recorded this gem at Bradley’s Barn in Nashville. Played a residency in Greenwich Village, ruled the local scene, then parted ways, leaving only fuzztone memories.

#GarageRockTober The Beefeaters: San Antonio/Denton TX, ‘65-‘69 “Don’t Hurt Me”, Whit, Mark and Bill and Paul got started at Alamo High then they headed to NTSU, gigging on campus and all around north Texas. Recorded a single that didn’t get heard until landing on Texas Garage comps in the 80s.
