TIL about currying:

It's like baking a value into a function before using it

regular:

add(x,y)
add(2,y)
add(2,3)

curried:

add(x)(y)
add(2)(y) is like creating a new function called add2(y) that behaves like this

add2(y)
{
return 2+y
}

syntax

add(2)(y)
add(2)(3)

Game of Life in Haskell took 242 ms per update with vector and 11.2 ms with massiv stencils, on the same memory. A 3D cellular automaton went from 418 ms to 39 ms.

A three-valued logic packed into an Int8 can still be pattern matched like an ordinary data type, exhaustiveness checks included. Pattern synonyms do it with no Template Haskell, and they work on types you didn't write, like Word8.

Partial function application is a fancy computer science term for setting up a function with some of its parameters now and passing the rest later. PHP 8.6 makes it native syntax.

Two new symbols to learn in PHP 8.6: ? is the argument placeholder, and ... means zero or more parameters. Define the function up front and fill in the rest later.

Anyone still using Haskell for Mac, or know if it's maintained? And what do you use to play around with Haskell on a Mac these days?
