Aye, the problem is that no matter how many environmental policies we adopt, coming out with a message about cutting #FuelDuty is massively unhelpful.

Diesel hits £2 a litre.
The government’s answer: compare prices on Google Maps. Their estimated saving: £40 a year.
The tax on a £100 fill-up: about £43.
Fair play, they’ve delivered.

This is a demonstration of why cutting #FuelDuty is the wrong policy @libdems.org.uk
That’s the problem - wealthy people are more likely to drive more and have bigger cars. Even if you believe that cutting #FuelDuty won’t just drive up demand in a fuel shortage, in a country where 22% of households don’t have a car, it’s nothing but a bung for rich SUV drivers.
Not this again. Cutting #FuelDuty for all will stimulate demand, driving up prices when the problem is a shortage.
It would be better to use the money here to reduce private car use, with tax relief for eg. hauliers.
It’s unclear when and by whom this policy was agreed.

I think he also had a pop at the 10p off #FuelDuty policy too.

So stop treating every litre of diesel the same.
Private car use and commercial use aren’t the same thing.
If you want to cut fuel duty, target the vehicles doing the work.
Cheaper fuel for the people actually moving the economy around.

Think about what a commercial vehicle actually does.
Food. Parcels. Building materials. Medicines. Parts. Fuel.
Nearly everything you buy has spent some time on a diesel vehicle.
Make that cheaper and you’re cutting a real business cost.

I’ll give the Lib Dems credit where it’s due.10p cut in fuel duty is exactly the sort of practical measure drivers and small businesses need when fuel prices are hammering household budgets.
I spend my life on the road.I know what fuel costs do to businesses.
I am really, really annoyed about this, on the same day #LibDemConference passes a good #ActiveTravel policy.
10p off #FuelDuty was a bad policy in Apr when it was first mentioned & a bad policy now. With constrained supply all it will do is increase demand & drive prices up @greenlibdems.org.uk
