#FridayFling 'attract' from RETURN OF THE DANCER OF THE NILE, a #romantasy set in ancient Egypt. (It's also part of my DANCER OF THE NILE SPECIAL EDITION Kickstarter). Available wide. www.amazon.com/Return-Dance...

@walkerharris.netOct 9, 2026, 3:44 PM

Oh my sweet, clueless Katie. 🤦

Here's a snip from when she's still going in circles about Kyle especially comparing him to Rachel who she is still fooling herself that she's just a gal pal.

Someday she'll figure it out.

#FridayFling

Screenshot of a work-in-progress manuscript with the word 'attract' highlighted twice.

Are Kyle’s actions really romance or only the kindness of a dear friend? I have no doubts about our friendship, as well as clear physical attraction. However, is that a deep foundation for a romantic relationship? I am attracted to Rachel, as well, and she is only a friend.

We’re less than two months from the release of ROSES & STONE, the second/final book in the SILVER & BLOOD duology, so today’s #FridayFling is a tiny peek at someone you met in book one. 👀

Prompt: “attract”

Preorder now—out December 1!

Lord Mar gave Garrick a wide berth and approached my other side on a white and brown yammok. The envoy gave me a bright smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes. “Princess Riela, it is my pleasure to accompany you today. You’ve attracted quite the crowd.”

“Yes, it seems several interlopers invited themselves along on what was supposed to be a private outing,” I murmured pointedly as he edged closer.
Mar chuckled, but his expression remained tight. “Indeed. You are too tempting to resist.”

There was a subtle warning layered under his words, but I hardly needed Mar to tell me I was a target.

#FridayFling Attract! I use this word a lot, but this time it's from The Alignments, a novella I wrote that came out last December. It's a fun little romp through Carnac, France, featuring standing stones, weird magic, bad choices, and crazy elderly French people.

There were two ways into Curia's apartment: the front door and the balcony. The front door would have been much simpler, but it had the problem of being visible to everyone else on the floor, in addition to anyone who wandered in. Their little adventure knocking on the doors earlier had made it clear that the neighbors weren't exactly interested in making friends. Possibly they were already under suspicion, for being outsiders who arrived just before the tragedy if nothing else.
This made the less noticeable route across the balconies more attractive. The sun was setting in a fiery blaze out at sea, and the beach was empty. They were exposed, and yet entirely private. That was why he'd decided to bring Sam to Carnac in the first place.

The cover of The Alignments, by EH Lupton, is an oil painting featuring three standing stones on a beach beneath a moody sky.

This week's #FridayFling prompt is "attract," and my offering is from Tikka Chance on Me. My award-winning 2018 not-really-a-biker-romance novella, it was written on a whim and became my most popular story. Trucker and Pinky still bring me joy.

A square promo graphic with the Friday Fling hashtag and prompt at the top and my Tikka Chance on Me by Suleikha Snyder byline at the bottom. The following excerpt text is in between: But it was more than just sex. This thing between us. This thing that had twisted me up with grief and then drowned me in so much relief that he was okay. I had feelings for him. Bigger than attraction, bigger than lust. They started with ‘like’ and ended with…heartbreak. Fuck. He was going to hurt me. I was going to hurt me. And still I’d decided to follow his bland brown car to yet another motel room.
The Shady Lane was about a quarter-mile past the Pineview Inn, off a stretch that included several gas stations and what had, when I was a kid, been a Ponderosa steakhouse. Now it was a Chinese buffet. The whole area was kind of transient. Nobody kept track of who was staying where or for how long. It was perfect for drug deals, for late-night assignations, and for government agents who’d just killed off their identity.
I was fast becoming a connoisseur of eastern Indiana motels. If the business classes didn’t work out, maybe I could write a travel guide: Best Places to Hook Up—Your Map to No-Tells, Motels, and Hotels Run by Patels.

Cory, baby, no. Honestly ask yourself if this man is worth it 🙂‍↔️

Excerpt from SmokeWIP, a sage Owen romance novel wip. Text as follows:

That bastard. That fucking bastard.

What would he have done if Matthew had been honest? If he'd said something like 'oh, I always thought Billy was hot, so this is like a miracle'? But the part of him that was good at reading people said it wasn't as simple as thinking Billy was attractive. No. This was more than that. Matthew had been carrying a crush on his best friend, one that could never be actualized or reciprocated, for over a decade.
Would he have been willing proxy for that?
His gut and hurt feelings insisted that, no, he would never. But he'd wanted Matthew from the first look, so maybe. Honestly maybe. He would've been disgusted in himself for having so little regard for his own worth, but Matthew was singularly beautiful and he might have been tempted.

Another #FridayFling from my sci fi romance-in-progress.

Context: Darien has spent several days unconscious after being attacked by dire wolves and wakes to find Lyla asleep next to him. Having a near-death experience puts a few things into perspective...

God, I wanted her. I had from the moment I’d laid eyes on her in the rose dome, dishevelled from the crash landing but her face full of wonder as she stared at my flowers. I’d fought the attraction — I neither needed nor wanted it — but my heart had other ideas. I found myself reaching for her without conscious thought.

This is from Nowhere Else, which is m/m sci-fi romance in which two lonely weirdos have a bad time in space (and then a good time in space), and it happens to be $0.99 most places right now

Attraction didn’t feel much like a lifetime’s worth of pop songs had told him it would. It felt, actually, very similar to Lange telekinetically pulling on him. Except Lange hadn’t been doing that when they’d been outside this morning. Jake was the origin.

He liked Lange.

He was sexually attracted to Lange.

It made no goddamn sense.

#FridayFling "attract"
From The Glowing Life of Leeann Wu, a novel about a 40-something midwife whose hands suddenly and mysteriously begin to glow.

Creased paper background. Text: It didn’t help that last week when I tentatively asked my longtime doctor about the sleeplessness and the strange glow, she’d told me I was likely entering perimenopause and everyone reported weird symptoms. She’d referred me to an ophthalmologist to check my eyes and muttered something about hot flushes. “Given your profession, I’m sure you know all about this.”

In my professional opinion, she could suck it. I was pretty sure hormonal temperature dysregulation wasn’t responsible for incandescent digits.

But I swallowed my outrage. I made the eye appointment, upped my Vitamin D, kept staying away from men, especially the young, attractive ones, and tried very hard not to glow.

Been a minute since I joined one of these, so why not today? Maybe a bit of The Book of Tony? #FridayFling

“I know that’s right.” Tony closes his eyes again. “Anything else? I’m running a compliment deficit.”
“What truly motivates you.” Arun lets out a small laugh. “You’re fun. You’re more caring than you let on. You are devastatingly brilliant and quite possibly the best in the world at what you do.”
“Yes, keep going.” His heart is still raw and can’t be soothed, but his ego is easily placated. “Please talk about how good I look. You wouldn’t believe how well I aged.”

For this week’s #FridayFling prompt “world” I have something from The Spymaster’s Secret (which is on sale for $2.99 this month!). In this snippet, Alexander’s twin makes him realize a hard truth.

Find it here: books2read.com/u/mdBvnZ

“If you want someone to see who you really are, you have to show them. You have to trust enough to open yourself up at least a little.”
As much as Alexander didn’t want to admit it, Faelen was right. Alexander had a certain face he presented to the court and most of the world. He couldn’t blame people for not seeing past something he’d constructed so solidly. Except he sort of did. And it terrified him to think of lowering those walls for all to see.
“That’s easier said than done,” he said slowly, quietly.

#FridayFling "world"

White text over blue background with a double wave of electricity at the bottom: "What will you do with your daughter gone? Kenji’s question echoed through my head.

No one had actually asked me that before. They’d told me: This is your time. You can remodel your house. Travel the world. I resented the conversations. It wasn’t like my whole life revolved around Lulu, but the way people talked, it sounded like it did. But the sad thing was I was beginning to worry I would have no useful function after she left." from The Glowing Life of Leeann Wu

#FridayFling - WORLD

Sharing a snippet from ROLL PLAY, since it deserves more love. (I promise it has funny bits too, but some of it is like this, because I have Thoughts and Feelings about Stuff.)

You can read the whole book for more Stuff: books2read.com/rplay

A text-heavy graphic with a pink background featuring the title ROLL PLAY and an illustration of two characters, a tall twenty-something guy and a plus-size thirty-something woman, kissing next to a text box that contains the following snippet:

“You don’t have much faith in me, do you?”
“It’s not that, it’s just…” She sighs and tips her head back, letting her eyes shut. “This is all really scary for me, and I’m constantly worrying about things that could go wrong.”
“Because of me?”
“No, because I have a preteen daughter,” she says, looking over at me again. “She’s growing up, and is going to have to deal with things I really wish she didn’t have to deal with. I want to be able to shield her from all of that, but I can’t. And I know, I know. My job isn’t to shield her from the world, but to give her the tools to handle whatever the world throws at her. But I still just—I want to hit pause sometimes. I want to let her be a little kid, just a bit longer.
“She’s going to be a young woman soon, in a society that objectifies young women. A sexist, fatphobic society that will make her think she’s not good enough. That she has to spend her energy trying to be what other people want, instead of being herself.

#FridayFling "world" — a bonus, just because

the author was maybe working through something in this part idk

"No," Mado said. "It doesn't matter what the rest of the world is like, because we don't have anywhere to go. If we run, they'll find us—whether it's [spoiler] or [spoiler]. So here we are. It's a wreck, but it's our wreck. Your mother lives here, and I know you don't want to live the rest of your life without seeing her. Vara, Xirri, all your friends—I can't take you away from them, not again. You deserve to live here. This is your home."

"Only if it's yours, too," he said,

The cover of A Waltz of Sinister Import, by Stephanie Burgis, shows a pair of late nineteenth-century dancing slippers hanging over the title and a bat with outstretched wings underneath the author's name. Framing the cover's text are branches with golden leaves. Above, beside, and below that cover image is this snippet of text: “You needn’t bother to restrain yourself for me,” she murmured. “After all, no one else would ever know if we—”
“No.” Lord Riven’s throat flexed above his cravat, but he opened his eyes to meet her gaze full-on with an erotically telltale shimmer of red veiling his light brown irises. “I’ve spent centuries restoring my tarnished honor. I won’t discard it now.”
Straightening his broad shoulders, he lifted his glass once more, this time as if making a toast. “My love, your curiosity and courage will always be an inspiration, but remember: you have saved me from my solitude and given me the world. No matter how desperately I may wish to give in on this matter, I cannot respond to your generosity by treating you with anything but the greatest of respect—regardless of any witnesses.”
“Hmm.” This time, Margaret’s tone was decidedly displeased.
