The Gherkin

#Photography #Architecture #London #Skyscraper #LostViews #FosterPartners

Less than two years after its December 2003 completion, 30 St Mary Axe, previously the Swiss Re Building and widely known as The Gherkin for its shape. Entirely glass clad the 40 storey building widens slightly from the ground level foot print and then narrows creating a curve to the apex. There the building is seen against a bright sky with clouds, a distant horizon low on the left and a mid rise building in the middle distance to the right. A view that is no longer possible because of subsequent building.
