British & French troops looted the old #SummerPalace in #Beijing, #China, on #ThisDayInHistory in 1860. Built up over centuries, it covered an area five times that of the #ForbiddenCity, and was later burnt down by the Brits. #QueenVictoria received a #Pekinese dog called Looty.

In the #ForbiddenCity, there's a lot of people around cosplaying traditional clothing rented from shops around the corner. Photo ops galore - they certainly know how to pose.

Rain is the best time to see the Forbidden City. The crowds thin out, the red walls deepen, the yellow glazed tiles glow, and the wet paving mirrors the palace. You hear only the rain on the stones. For once, the old palace feels quiet. #ForbiddenCity #Beijing

View from a dark interior doorway in Beijing’s Forbidden City, looking out toward a brightly lit palace building across a courtyard. Visitors appear as silhouettes within the doorway, while the ornate golden-roofed structure beyond is framed by the dark red and gold architecture.

Horizontal orientation photograph capturing the moat surrounding the Forbidden City in Beijing. A distinguished corner watchtower and the red walls are perfectly reflected in the calm water. In the foreground, an elderly man in a dark jacket is fishing from the stone bridge, leaning next to his bicycle with a basket. Weeping willow trees with light green leaves frame the right side. Natural light emphasizes the geometric patterns of the traditional roof and the symmetry of the reflections. Optimized for Chinese imperial architecture, Beijing tourism, street photography, reflections, and traditional daily life indexing.

A flower-shaped window in the Forbidden City's red walls, framing peonies and golden rooftops at dusk. In classical Chinese gardens, the window was never just a window — it was a frame for borrowed scenery. #ForbiddenCity #ChineseGarden #BorrowedScenery
