Sermon: Follow Jesus, Not Man
New Age movements can lead people into following spiritual leaders, gurus, teachers, or people claiming special spiritual knowledge. Christians must be careful not to fall into the same trap by blindly following pastors, prophets, apostles, politicians, influencers, or any other human leader.
Following Jesus does not mean surrendering your discernment to another person. No pastor, prophet, politician, or spiritual teacher should take the place that belongs to Jesus Christ.
“Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.” - Psalm 146:3 KJV
Jesus did not say that a religious leader was the way. He said: “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6 KJV
That is why Christians should read the Scriptures for themselves.
When Paul and Silas preached in Berea, the Bereans did not blindly accept everything they heard simply because religious teachers said it. Scripture says they “searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” - Acts 17:11 KJV

Beware of MAGA conservative false prophets, false teachers, and pastors who told Christians to fight on January 6 and who tell them that Donald Trump is an “anointed one” or “chosen one” sent to save America. I believe this reflects a falling away from faith in Jesus Christ and His Gospel, an apostasy.
Jesus warned about false Christs and false prophets who would deceive people through signs and wonders: “For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders” (Matthew 24:24 KJV).
In my interpretation, when political leaders are presented with messianic language and religious figures claim signs, wonders, or prophecies to persuade Christians to follow them, believers should take Jesus’ warning seriously. Test every spirit and every teaching by Scripture (1 John 4:1). Do not put your faith in an earthly political leader. Jesus Christ is the true Christ, and Jesus alone saves.

January 6 and the Falling Away
“For that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first...” - 2 Thessalonians 2:3 KJV
January 6 was wicked and evil. I believe it revealed something deeper than a political crisis: a spiritual falling away. In my interpretation, January 6 showed what can happen when Christians exchange devotion to Jesus Christ and His Gospel for devotion to political power and an earthly leader. Conservative false prophets, false teachers, and pastors have called Donald Trump “the anointed one” and “the chosen one,” presenting him as someone who would save America. Christians must test such claims against Scripture. America does not have a political savior. Jesus Christ alone saves.
Jesus warned, “For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets” (Matthew 24:24 KJV). Paul also warned about “false apostles, deceitful workers” and wrote that “Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:13-14 KJV).

Take It by Force Is Not the Way of Christ
Texts: 1 Samuel 2:12-17; Matthew 11:12; John 18:36
I believe some MAGA-aligned false prophets, false teachers, and conservative evangelical apologists want to “take it by force.” To me, that resembles Eli’s sons, the “sons of Belial,” who abused their religious authority for selfish gain. Scripture says, “Now the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; they knew not the LORD.” - 1 Samuel 2:12, KJV. They were priests, but their religious titles did not make them faithful to God.

When someone resisted their corrupt demands concerning the sacrifice, their servant said, “Nay; but thou shalt give it me now: and if not, I will take it by force.” - 1 Samuel 2:16, KJV. That phrase should be a warning whenever religion becomes centered on domination, political power, control, greed, or forcing people to conform. Christianity is not supposed to become a tool for taking power by force.

TURN NOT TO THE RIGHT HAND NOR TO THE LEFT -
Proverbs 4:27 says, “Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.” Scripture repeatedly describes life as a path. There is a way of wisdom and a way of foolishness, a path of righteousness and a path of wickedness. That is why Proverbs 4:26 says, “Ponder the path of thy feet.” Pay attention to where you are walking. Do not blindly follow politicians, preachers, celebrities, movements, traditions, or crowds. Test everything by the Word of God. Deuteronomy 5:32 says, “Ye shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.” This is not about modern political parties. The Christian path is not Republican or Democrat, conservative or liberal. Our standard is God’s Word, and our Lord is Jesus Christ. Psalm 119:105 says, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Proverbs also commands us, “Remove thy foot from evil.” Do not excuse evil because someone belongs to your political party. Do not defend wickedness because someone claims to be Christian. Romans 12:9 says, “Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.” Sometimes following Christ means leaving behind an ideology, a false teacher, hatred, pride, or an idol. Jesus warned that the broad way leads to destruction, while the narrow way leads to life. The question is not how many people are walking a certain road. The question is whether Jesus is leading you there. Colossians 2:6 says, “As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him.” Walk in Christ. Love God. Love your neighbor. Love your enemies. Speak truth. Show mercy. Reject hatred, deception, pride, and idolatry. Do not turn to the right or to the left. Keep following Jesus. “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” - John 14:6.

Not Crusaders, but Followers of Christ
Scripture: John 18:36; Matthew 5:9; Matthew 26:52 The apostles and the first Christians were not crusaders. They did not spread the Gospel through political power, military conquest, or the sword. They proclaimed Jesus Christ.

Jesus said: “My kingdom is not of this world.”

John 18:36 When Peter took up a sword to defend Jesus, Christ told him to put it away. The kingdom of God would not advance through violence.

Put Your Trust in God, Not Earthly Power
Psalm 146:3 (KJV): “Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.”
Images of nations, borders, power, and greatness should remind Christians that no earthly ruler or kingdom is eternal. Scripture repeatedly warns against pride, conquest, oppression, and putting our confidence in human power.
Jesus did not call His followers to worship political power. He called us to follow Him, love our neighbors, care for the vulnerable, and proclaim the Gospel.
Political kingdoms will rise and fall, but Jesus Christ remains King.
Do not put your hope in princes. Put your hope in Jesus Christ. Only Jesus saves.
