The #NavierStokes equations describe how fluids flow, from ocean currents to blood in our veins, and they've resisted a full solution for over 150 years. This summer, #AI cracked one class of these equations in record time, sparking real debate in the #FluidMechanics community

A droplet’s shape can determine where it travels.
As a buoyant droplet deforms in a microchannel, the resulting hydrodynamic lift can oppose buoyancy and move it toward the channel center. Larger droplets experience stronger centering forces.

The #NavierStokes equation has been getting a lot of attention lately. If you want to take a closer look at what lies behind its different terms, here’s a short video by Lorelscience breaking down the forces at play.
What should a publication in #FluidMechanics contribute to?
#PhysicsOfFluids is evolving its positioning around a simple principle: “Physics First”, placing the advancement of knowledge in #physics at the heart of its editorial policy.

New paper in Physics of Fluids: the gravity-driven flow of Herschel-Bulkley (yield-stress) fluids in a syringe, and the transition from jetting to dripping. A free-surface flow problem where yield stress, shear-thinning and gravity compete. #rheology #IDDSI #FluidMechanics
Seems an appropriate day to remember Osborne Reynolds @manchester.ac.uk. #NavierStokes #fluidmechanics #MillenniumProblem
New publication by V. Ocqueteau and M. Tucsnak in the Journal of Mathematical Fluid Mechanics:
They study the small vertical motion of a floating cylinder.
