Goodbye #Enercare hot water tank rental. Finally decided to buy out my 16 yr old tank. Also planning to cancel my maintenance plan for my < 2 year old furnace and a/c but that was a yearly contract so I have to wait until Dec. for that. Saving almost $90/mn all told. #FixedIncome

This paper finds that the first five trading days of each month generate 83% of the U.S. corporate-bond credit premium and more than half of the returns across 103 bond factors. The reason remains an open puzzle. spkl.io/633237pu57

#CorporateBonds #FixedIncome

Figure 3: Could luck produce the premium of the first five trading days? This figure shows how often the premium of the first five trading days could arise by luck. We shuffle the trading days within each month 5,000 times in random order (‘shuffled’), in the same way for every bond, and in each shuffle find the five days in a row that have the highest premium. The premium of five days in a row is their average daily credit return minus the average daily credit return on the remaining days of the month. For individual bonds (Panel A), we estimate it as the dummy coefficient δ of Eq. (2), with bond-month fixed effects αi,m and a dummy variable for those five days in place of the first five trading days. For the value-weighted bond market index (Panel B), we compute it in each month and average it across months. The histogram shows the premium of the best five days in each of the 5,000 shuffles, in basis points per day, and the vertical line shows the premium of the actual first five trading days. The p-value is the fraction of shuffles in which the best five days have a premium at least as large as that of the actual first five trading days, and it is the shuffled p-value in Table 1. The sample period is February 1997 to January 2023

US HY spreads at 2.80% hit the lowest decile in history. With defaults near 4% but trending down from 2025 highs, this isn't a new credit cycle—it's a market pricing perfection: Fed rate cuts, higher BB quality, and low volatility. Real risk remains energy shocks. #FixedIncome #Macroeconomics

This chart illustrates the drop in both US High Yield spreads and default rates from their 2025 peak to current 2026 levels:
HY Spreads: Declined from 4.50% to 2.80% (sitting in the lowest decile in index history).
Default Rate: Dropped from 5.50% to 4.00%.
The data highlights a market pricing a soft landing driven by Fed rate cuts, lower volatility, and higher BB credit quality, with energy shocks remaining the primary risk factor.

PH borrowings fell 72% YoY in Aug (₱141.27B vs ₱508.53B) due to base effects from 2025’s RTB. 8M total is down just 0.5% with 82.6% of the target secured. As EMs adopt barbell strategies, BTr opens its next domestic RTB (Sep 29-Oct 7). Not austerity! #Macroeconomics #FixedIncome #2k115

This chart highlights a sharp 72% year-over-year drop in Philippine gross government borrowings for August 2026, falling to ₱141.27B from ₱508.53B in August 2025. Rather than fiscal tightening, this decline stems from a strong base effect—driven by a massive retail bond issuance in August 2025—alongside heavy front-loading, with 82.6% of the 8-month borrowing target already secured by July 2026.
