Many bills that affect IVF never mention IVF. INCIID's free Fertility Legislation Tracker maps fertility-related bills in every state: pending, failed, or enacted. See your state: https://inciid.org/fertility-legislation-tracker/ #IVF #fertility

INCIID graphic titled Legislation Tracker. Headline: What's happening with fertility bills in your state? Below is an illustrated map of the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, with gold, coral, and dark teal dots scattered across about 20 states, suggesting bill activity around the country. The dots are decorative and don't show real bill statuses. Text below the map: Explore INCIID's Legislation Tracker. A dark button reads: Explore the tracker at INCIID.org. At the bottom: Independent. Nonprofit. Here for you.

🧪 One possible explanation is that some embryos may stop developing while being grown in the laboratory and therefore never reach the blastocyst stage.

🧵 As incomes rise and access to education and healthcare improves, women around the world have chosen to have fewer children. India, too, has seen a stunning decline in family sizes over the last 50 years.

#Population #Fertility #TFR #India #DataForIndia

Title: Large families are becoming increasingly uncommon in India

Sub-title: Share of mothers by the number of children they have, over time

Explanation: The share of mothers with five or more children fell from 27% in 1993 to 8% in 2021, while the share with two children rose from 21% to 39%. Over the same period, the share with one child increased from 17% to 21%, the share with three children rose slightly from 20% to 22%, and the share with four children declined from 15% to 10%. The data excludes women with no children and includes sampled women ages 15–49.

In ancient Babylonia and the broader Mesopotamian culture, grasshoppers (and their swarming phase, locusts) held a multi-layered, dual meaning. They represented both a positive symbol of fertility and abundance and a destructive force of nature used in divination and dietary sustenance.
In their solitary, non-destructive form, grasshoppers were viewed by Babylonians as symbols of the natural cycle, fertility, and abundance. Because they appeared in large numbers during agricultural cycles, they were tied to the life-giving forces of the earth.
This famous example is a beautifully detailed, nearly 4,000-year-old Babylonian stone weight carved from hematite in the shape of a grasshopper (c. 1800–1700 BCE). Used in markets for fair trade transactions, the grasshopper shape on the weight likely invoked blessings of agricultural prosperity and nature.
When solitary grasshoppers crowded together and transformed into swarming locusts, their meaning shifted drastically. To the Babylonians, a locust swarm was a catastrophic event that could strip fields bare and cause widespread famine.
Babylonians were deeply invested in astrology and divination. Grasshopper and locust behavior was carefully documented in cuneiform omen series (such as the Šumma Ālu). A swarm of grasshoppers appearing in a specific city or flying in a particular direction was interpreted as a direct message or warning from the gods, usually predicting economic ruin, military invasion, or divine displeasure.
Despite the threat they posed to crops, grasshoppers were heavily utilized by Babylonians in daily practical life.
Babylonians actively harvested locusts and grasshoppers for food. Cuneiform records show that mass amounts of these insects were caught, preserved in brine, and transported over hundreds of kilometers to be eaten as a protein-rich delicacy or everyday staple.
