Well, that's rarely a good sign... ๐Ÿค”

Idk, what does the #DSM-5 say about clutching your estranged children's toys while watching home movies in the dark inside the house of their mother, your ex-wife, that you've broken into?

I doubt they're for it. I'm certainly not ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

#FilmSky ๐ŸŽฅ #FallingDown ๐Ÿงต

Huh! This seems... inauspicious.The way he's holding that thing is no good. I'm very glad the movie made the choice to get the wife and kids out of there asap, and didn't dangle their safety and well-being in front of us for effect.
@iamkaymichelle.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 11:12 PM

๐Ÿ˜ฑ

But also, this is so comically on-the-nose and devoid of specificity that it also seems kind of funny, at times. I'm picturing Ebbe Roe Smith at the typewriter, racking his brains for even-more-fucked-up typical-of-family-annihilator things Bill could say.

It's farcical, tbh ๐Ÿ˜…

#FallingDown ๐Ÿงต

"And we'd all go to sleep together...""We'd all sleep together in the dark." I was in the middle of a shiver of terror, when I also laughed, bc Bill is SO over the top and sort of a caricature of a man in crisis.
@iamkaymichelle.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 10:05 PM

I question the physics of the construction-site rocket-launcher incident ๐Ÿค”

I question a lot of this movie, really. I think #FallingDown is kind of silly and very cynical. It also seems to only talk down to us?

Idk. I really don't know what to make of it. I don't think it's good, tho.

@iamkaymichelle.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 9:57 PM

I think this movie maybe makes sense as, like, an allegory for stupid people.

This is sort of a bleak, allegorical depiction of America in the era (it's worse now, frankly), but told to us thru film as though we were the dumbest people ever to live.

And maybe we are! ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

#FilmSky ๐ŸŽฅ #FallingDown ๐Ÿงต

It's sort of in the spirit of Taxi Driver, except Travis Bickle is, like, a real and specific guy, a character. William Foster is, like, an allegorical stand-in who only says back creepy, gottem lines that old boomers wish they'd said to people. This is a bizarre movie. Who is this... for? Am I supposed to be... entertained? Like, I still don't know what (or why) this is.
@iamkaymichelle.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 9:25 PM

I can't post any screenshots, obv, but this is a pro-killing-Nazis film! ๐Ÿคฉ

Like Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare & Monuments Men, we get some of that tasty Nazi-stompin' action here ๐Ÿคค

It's a good one, too. That Nazi gets what's coming to him (as so seldom happens IRL).

@iamkaymichelle.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 9:10 PM

I don't think he has a second part to this. I think it's just 'What about them?'

Yeah, they're out there!

Actually, shit, man, you run an army-surplus store. You probably a see a bunch of 'em on the regular ๐Ÿ˜†

#FilmSky ๐ŸŽฅ #FallingDown ๐Ÿงต

"And what about them muff divers?" What ABOUT them, dude? What do you even mean?
@iamkaymichelle.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 8:57 PM

Ahhh, that's the good stuff ๐Ÿคฉ

Great shots of the city in #FallingDown, for sure. It is, at times, a visually compelling and well-composed #film.

#FilmSky ๐ŸŽฅ

I enjoy this kind of stuff. Look at that smog, Jesus.Bustling! I bet they didn't get signed releases for any of those people, either. That's guerilla filmmaking, baby! If you do it at a large-enough scale, how could anyone even complain?
@iamkaymichelle.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 8:55 PM

2 thoughts:

- I don't think Foster's actually angry about the burger (or the graffiti or the shop's Coke prices)... ๐Ÿค”

- Sheila Folsom (Dedee Pfeiffer) is still stealing the scene every time she's onscreen, omfg, what a fucking superstar ๐Ÿคฉ

#FilmSky ๐ŸŽฅ #FallingDown ๐Ÿงต

Yeah, dude, this seems like it's maybe more about that restraining order your ex wife put out on you and maybe the judge who wanted to 'make an example' of you (lol) plus whatever tf you do for a living than about the thinness of the burgers. He's not worried about consequences, though. From his standpoint, as a family-annihilator-to-be, he IS consequences. He doesn't near to fear consequences. He is the one who knocks.She's thinking, "Yeah, I don't eat here, man..."Ah! She's so funny. I guess I enjoy what the manager, Rick, is doing, too, but Sheila makes this scene SO MUCH funnier. Good God, I cannot look away from all the faces she's making. She's got a handful of lines, but it's her mugging when she doesn't have any that is so incredible to me.
@iamkaymichelle.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 8:20 PM

[Stalking restaurant, pretending to make normal chitchat w/ its patrons, his hostages]

Foster: "And you, ma'am? How's the food?"

Whammyburger Patron: [vomits loudly onto her plate in terror]

Foster: "I think we have a critic!"

I guess this is satire?? Idk wtf to make of it ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ

#FallingDown ๐Ÿงต

This kind of thing sets my nerves on edge. A white dude with a gun stalking a crowded place of business, being in control and insisting everyone act normal. The hairs on the back of my neck are standing up, but I think they're supposed to. I think that's the point of this movie. I'm withholding judgment, though.BLARGHARAFGHAFHADGH"I think we have a critic!" I guess I think he's like The Joker (kinda-sorta based on Flannery O'Connor's The Misfit, nfn, something they very much claim at her home in Milledgeville, GA, where they give tours and will totally get into it if you ask) (make sure to see the descendants of her peacocks while you're there, too; magnificent creatures). He's kinda-sorta got a point, a little bit, sometimes, but he's TOTALLY unhinged, and therefore, wrong even when he's right. People that glorify the Joker are annoying, too, and probably for the same reason(s).
@iamkaymichelle.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 8:09 PM

Damn! That's the worst & it happens ALL the time, too:

You innocently wander into a fast food establishment 5-6mins after they stop serving breakfast, and the next thing you know, you're dealing with a dining room full of scared, jumpy hostages ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

What an odd movie this is ๐Ÿค”

#FallingDown #FilmSky

I think the script (by Ebbe Roe Smith, a writer and actor) agrees that this is, like, a bad guy and isn't reasonable. This is almost allegorical, a series of situations showing us that he should not be allowed to go 'home' to that little girl (Abigail?).I think what people are saying when they jokingly say that D-FENS is a 'good dude' is that they sympathize with all of his feelings of impotence and rage, and they wish they could act out like he can WHICH SURELY CANNOT BE THE POINT OF THIS MOVIE! Like American Psycho, I'm sure people that love this for the wrong reasons are so completely missing the point as to prove it, but I still don't know what this movie is saying about Foster yet. I've rarely been more frustrated by a movie, or less sure of whether I like it or not. It's odd.I mean, NOT a good guy. He's doing things that other not-good-guys wish they could do, but we're not meant to sympathize with him, I don't think. I think you have to deliberately misread the text pretty hard to be, like, 'Hey, he's within his rights.' He's holding a restaurant full of people hostage. Not a good dude.The fact that he makes this guy sit back down and 'keep eating' speaks to his antisocial psychopathy and need for control, etc. It's implicitly being said, "Actually, it's normal and right that someone threatens this restaurant staff with a gun and death, and you should just keep on eating and be cool, because this should have happened a long time ago, and I promise I'm not a threat to you." But he fucking IS a threat to them; he fires 8 rounds into the ceiling by accident. What if someone's working on the roof? He's a BAD GUY, and furthermore, the movie is aware of this fact.
@iamkaymichelle.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 7:45 PM

I am *dying* laughing just watching the faces that Sheila (Folsom, played by Michelle Pfeiffer's younger sister, Deedee) is making at Foster during the Whammyburger scene ๐Ÿคฃ

Worth the price of admission just to see her do her thing here. What a treat!

#FilmSky ๐ŸŽฅ #FallingDown ๐Ÿงต

You can't really see it here, but...Here you can, I think. They bear some resemblance to one another. Deedee's got It, man. She's drawing my eyes constantly in this scene; she's stealing the scene, as they say.
@iamkaymichelle.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 7:36 PM

This whole goddamned movie (so far, at least) is just a series of boomer power fantasies. This is like if you asked my aunt Karen to write a Death Wish film, but just about her petty, day-to-day concerns.

Like, a whole rampaging revenge film tackling the pet-peeves of bitchy boomers ๐Ÿคฏ

#FallingDown

"Wah, I want breakfast. Wah!""Naturally, breakfast is served during the appointment for breakfast. You're late, dude. How is this my fault or what's 'wrong with society?'" But also, I think the movie thinks William Foster is a psychopath, too. I can't tell what this movie thinks to be honest. It's frustrating.
@iamkaymichelle.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 7:27 PM

Every time William Foster is around other people, I'm terrified. It's gonna go badly for them

Maybe it's just the times, but I'm seeing Foster as a stand-in for every bitter, resentful mediocre white man in America (and God, there are so many).

This is not a subtle film ๐Ÿ™‚โ€โ†”๏ธ

#FilmSky ๐ŸŽฅ #FallingDown

It's like a horror film. This is a jump scare, lol. Bah! He's there. They're all in danger!
@iamkaymichelle.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 2:49 AM

Occurred offscreen, presumably to save $.

There was a stock sound of a car crash (well, I don't *know* it's a stock sound; someone could have made some bespoke foley) and then Foster walks up this posed scene.

Idk why, but it cracked me up. It was so... theme park-y? ๐Ÿ˜†

#FilmSky ๐ŸŽฅ #FallingDown ๐Ÿงต

Way easier to do than get a car in motion to land that way with people in it, etc. I get why it was done, but it was HILARIOUS cut-rate for a movie that's, like, filmed on location and has scenes with lots of extras, etc. It was just like someone made an executive decision they had the money for 85% of that sequence but NOT the car crash part, so they cut away and we just hear a noise and then Foster tromps up to this scene lol.
@iamkaymichelle.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 2:33 AM

Uh, his intentions read as pretty family-annihilatory in this phone chat with his (I guess) ex-wife ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

I went from hoping Foster saves Prendergast the trouble of going home to his bellowing wife to badly hoping Prendergast keeps Foster from 'going home.' I'm invested now ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

#FilmSky ๐ŸŽฅ #FallingDown ๐Ÿงต

"I'm coming home. I'm coming home for her birthday." EEKS! That's meant to be scary, though, I think. Fuck all those edgy douchebags who jokily try to 'reclaim' this narrative. I think the movie knows what it's doing, and knows this is an unsympathetic, deeply-unhinged, antisocial maniacal freak. Look at his fucking haircut! This movie's not a fan of its main character, I don't think.
@iamkaymichelle.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 2:16 AM

Whaaat this is not a good dude ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

I don't think the movie/script necessarily thinks he is, either. We'll see where they go with this, but I'm UPSET with all the people whose throats I haven't jumped down when they've made "Falling Down is just a good man standing up" jokes

#FilmSky ๐ŸŽฅ #FallingDown ๐Ÿงต

"I can understand that...""I mean, I wouldn't want you people..." [RECORD SCRATCH]"... in my backyard, either." This is so heinously on the nose and not charmingly presented that I think it's meant to be commentary on what an asshole he is. Like, he's NOT a good dude, and surely Joel Schumacher doesn't think this guy's a good guy, either, right? Or reasonable or right?

@iamkaymichelle.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 1:11 AM

Oh, I see your filmic symbolism there, Mr. Schumacher.

To be fair, it is NOT very subtle, lol ๐Ÿ˜†

Something tells me this may not be a subtle film! Just a sense I'm getting from how comical and over the top it's been in the first few minutes.

#FilmSky ๐ŸŽฅ #FallingDown ๐Ÿงต

In their struggle, the Korean shop owner and American bad-haircut victim knock over and break a glass vase/jar containing American Flags, which now lie scattered on the ground. DO YOU GET IT? THIS IS COMMENTARY. IT'S SUPPOSED TO LOUD AND UNSUBTLE LIKE THAT, I THINK (I'm being Joel Schumacher, and I think it's bc he thinks we're all dumb) (and he's not really wrong).
@iamkaymichelle.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 1:01 AM

Michael Douglas is working his jaw so much, I suspect his Actor's Secret is either that his character is on Adderall or he is (now that's what I call an Actor's Secret).

He's just GRINDING that bad boy, working his mandible like a goddamned speed bag. He seems stressed ๐Ÿค”
