Johnson was either (according to differing accounts) a nurse or a secretary at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, who was active in the civil rights movement. Knight met and painted her on a trip to the U.S.

One of a series of capricci busts, most from the Renaissance, some from the 19th century. The date of this one is unknown (at least to me). đź“·by me, 2017
