The Harvested Man
A faceless gentleman rises from the wheat, his missing head replaced by the very field surrounding him.

A surreal painted scene shows a headless man standing waist-deep in a golden wheat field beneath a pale blue-gray sky. He wears a dark black suit with broad shoulders, a white collared shirt, and a narrow gray tie. Where his head should be, a cluster of tall, dry wheat stalks grows upward from the open collar, their golden stems and seed heads forming an irregular botanical silhouette. Above this empty space floats a glossy black bowler hat, tilted slightly and surrounded by thick, softly painted clouds. The clouds gather around and behind the hat as though the absent head has dissolved into vapor, with darker gray smoke-like forms drifting toward the upper right. The man's rigid, centered posture gives the composition the formality of a traditional portrait despite the impossible absence of a face. Golden wheat fills the foreground and stretches toward a very low horizon, where faint distant structures are barely visible. Muted blue, charcoal, cream, and warm ochre dominate the restrained palette. Visible brush texture throughout the sky, clothing, clouds, and field gives the image the appearance of an aged oil painting while emphasizing its quiet, dreamlike unreality.
