We mistake the whole for the thing itself. A body, a machine, a civilization—and perhaps even “you”—are countless systems experienced as one. Simplicity may only be complexity viewed from a distance.
A thing can look singular from the outside. Look closer: identity, society, even the self are systems disguised as wholes. What are you missing because you only see the surface?
