I was already thinking about this scene this morning. I’m always thinking about Estinien feeling safe enough to be vulnerable with Cimorene (and vice versa).

Another step creaks the floorboards and finally catches Cimorene's attention. She turns in her seat, setting her sewing aside, and he watches the immediate elation fade, her brows drawing together in a frown. He wonders what an image he presents - still in armor, having spared no time returning to her.

He gets his answer as she stands and reaches out for him. He does not need to be told twice; dropping his belongings quietly as possible, he crosses the room to her and pulls her up into an embrace immediately. She doesn't complain about how tightly he holds her, about the sharp metal edges digging into her soft skin. She knows, same as him, that none of that matters. What matters is he is here, they are both alive and - for the time being - safe.

She doesn't ask if he's all right, because she knows he is not. Neither, though, does she express worry for the state of affairs whence he came, because she can tell this isn't about that. All she says, after some time of simply holding him and being held in turn, is a gentle command: "Tell me what happened."

For #estimorene Estinien said it, casual mid-conversation, because he forgot that they had not, in fact, said it to each other before lmao

He was very flustered once he realized what happened - thankfully Cimorene got over her surprise quickly and reciprocated
