@robinedgar59.bsky.socialThe "solar boat" of Ra & other sun gods, was most probably inspired by ancient observations of the upturned solar crescent that may be seen in the sky during partial #SolarEclipses, especially when that upturned crescent sun was seen rising out of, or setting into, a body of water.
@robinedgar59.bsky.socialWell I can certainly fill you in on how #eclipses influenced ancient humanity's beliefs & symbolism-iconography, & how this relates to your interest in birds & other flying creatures.
If you have any questions feel free to ask me.
@robinedgar59.bsky.socialWhen I first saw the white bird-like pattern in the Sun's corona in French astronomer Serge Koutchmy's photo of the 1991 #TotalSolarEclipse that was published in the May 1992 #NationalGeographic, I immediately intuited that it was the source of inspiration for the #Phoenix myth.
@robinedgar59.bsky.socialIn the late 19th century, prominent British astronomer Edward Walter Maunder very credibly hypothesized that the #WingedSunSymbols of #Mesopotamia & #AncientEgypt were inspired by the "winged Sun" seen during some #TotalSolarEclipses.
