Dr Karla Soares-Weiser, @cochrane.org, at #JBIiGNITE: "The future of evidence synthesis depends not simply on producing more information, but on maintaining the trust that makes evidence useful."
#EBHC

Information is abundant. Trust is scarce. Research integrity bridges the two. Our most valuable product will not be another answer. It will be an answer that deserves to be trusted.

'What we are up against: “green-washing” and the commercial determinants of planetary health’.

The Commercial Determinants of Health, edited by Nason Maani, Mark Petticrew and Sandro Galea. The cover shows an aerial photograph of a container ship loaded with shipping containers crossing a blue ocean.

On the right is a circular diagram titled ‘Discourses of climate delay’, sourced from William Lamb et al. (2020). The centre circle holds the title. An inner ring is divided into four broad strategies, and an outer ring lists 12 specific discourses under them:

Redirect responsibility (‘Someone else should take actions first’): individualism, which holds that individuals and consumers are ultimately responsible; whataboutism, which holds that our carbon footprint is trivial compared with others’; and the ‘free rider’ excuse, which holds that others will take advantage if we cut emissions.
Push non-transformative solutions (‘Disruptive change is not necessary’): technological optimism, which focuses on current and future technologies; all talk, little action, which cites ambitious targets and declared emergencies; fossil fuel solutionism, which presents fossil fuels as a bridge to a low-carbon future; and no sticks, just carrots, which argues that only voluntary and supportive policies will work.
Emphasise the downsides (‘Change will be disruptive’): policy perfectionism, which says only perfect solutions with universal support should be adopted; appeal to well-being, which says abandoning fossil fuels will condemn the global poor to hardship; and appeal to social justice, which says climate action will burden vulnerable and hard-working people.
Surrender (‘It’s not possible to mitigate climate change’): change is impossible, which says emission reductions run against human nature or democratic society; and doomism, which says action is too little, too late and catastrophe is already locked in.Slide titled ‘Impacts of rural tree-based interventions on health’, showing a forest plot of food security outcomes from Murage et al. (2026). Trees in croplands and payments for ecosystem services improved food security. Protected areas and collaborative forest management showed no effect, and the overall pooled effect was not significant.

đŸ”„ Changing Practice at Scale: Rigorous and Practical Implementation Evaluation: Learning from QASC and ACCELERATE trials by Sandy Middleton at #JBIiGNITE
#EBHC

Screenshot of a video presentation slide titled “Key Takeaways”, with six ticked points: 1. Choose a theory, model, framework (e.g., CFIR) to guide what you measure. 2. Match the study design (hybrid type, stepped-wedge, etc.) to your research question. 3. Select and name implementation strategies explicitly, and track how they are delivered. 4. Measure implementation outcomes (e.g. RE-AIM; Proctor’s taxonomy etc) alongside clinical outcomes. 5. Plan mixed-methods data collection from the start, not after the fact. 6. Don’t leave home without a statistician! A small video window on the right shows the presenter, labelled Sandy Middleton, in front of NRI and ACU logos.

Wow! Clearly this was a presentation that impressed, going by the attendee feedback! At #JBIiGNITE, Prof Natalie Taylor presents: Precision Implementation and the Future of Evidence-Based Healthcare: Targeting What Works, Where It Matters.
#EBHC #impsci

Presentation slide with a purple background, titled ‘The future of evidence-based healthcare is not just generating better evidence’. Under the heading ‘It is:’, five ticked items read: designing innovations for implementation; preparing health systems for change; understanding why implementation succeeds; learning from every implementation effort; and using those insights to accelerate the next one. On the right, a three-step flow diagram lists: 1. Design for implementation; 2. Prepare the health system; 3. Identify patterns behind implementation success. The closing line reads ‘Precision implementation is about targeting what works, where it matters’. The slide shows logos for Adelaide University, JBI, UNSW Sydney and UNSW Implementation to Impact (i2i).
