Joined the Little Tokyo Historical Society tour on the final day of #DoorsOpenCA, a state-wide initiative organized by the California Preservation Foundation. #historicdistrict #DTLA

A few photos from our tour of #LittleTokyo:

Doors Open California tour attendees listen to Mike Okamura talk about the historic entrance to the Hompa Hongwanji Buddhist Temple, constructed in Little Tokyo in the mid-1920s. In October 1986, it was declared a Historic-Cultural Monument (HCM No. 318).A color photo of the Little Tokyo Historical Society tour showing the timeline embedded into the sidewalk. Etched in the cement timeline are the words “1942: Families awaiting detention gather here” and “1922: Union Church built as a religious and…” can be seen with tour participants blurred in the background. During our tour of Little Tokyo, we stopped by the legendary Fugetsu-Do, a historic Japanese mochi and manju confectionery on First Street. This photo shows one window covered by a mid-century b/w photo of the legacy business alongside a door covered by a maroon-colored sign with the words (printed in white) "Fugetsu-Do Confectionery since 1903" in English and Japanese (though I don't read Japanese, so am not exactly sure about the translation of the Japanese characters).

Also toured thru the Hollywood Heritage Museum archives yesterday as part of #DoorsOpenCA (each tour visitor had a chance to hold this #Emmy award from their collection🏆).

Today is the last day of the museum’s Hollywood memorabilia sale: www.hollywoodheritage.org/event-detail... #hollywoodhistory

This bejeweled Russian head-dress worn by Dolores Del Rio (in the film "The Red Dance") was on display as part of the tour of the Hollywood Heritage Museum archives, along with photos of the famous actress wearing the headpiece. Also on display: Anna May Wong's original calling card, an Emmy award, and the original painting used for the "Ten Commandments" movie poster. Each of us on the tour were able to hold the Emmy (which was not that heavy).A photo of one of the tables covered in movie lobby cards and publicity photos for sale at the Hollywood Heritage Museum. Many (but not all) of these items came from the son of actor Glenn Ford, so the inside sale is somewhat Glenn-Ford-centric.A photo of the books (& a few VHS & DVDs) for sale outside the Hollywood Heritage Museum. The museum's California landmark plaque can be seen on the right of the photo.
