Photo number two - An early photo of Departure Bay around 1920. There were only a few scattered homes at the time in the area. Prior it was a place for trade used by the Snuneymuxw First Nation.

Photo number two - Explorers exploring the village of Stil'rep. Departure Bay is a sacred place to the snuneymuxw, and was once the site of one of their largest villages, known as Stiil'ep. Before European contact the village ran from today's kinsmen Park along the waterfront to Hammond Bay Road at the end of Departure Bay Beach.
