#DebateNight suggested it the single square: Jamaica Street/UnionStreet at Argyle Street Crossing. With no irony, the former #Boots #DizzysCorner

The Jamaica Street/UnionStreet/Argyle Street Crossing with former Boots the Chemists Store in RHS corner. People on blind dates of old would arrange to meet there. Canny suitors would slip up Jamaica Street and have a look at the prospective date. Should they not appeal, they'd slip away down Jamaica Street again - leaving the poor soul standing uncollected. Colloquially known in Glasgow as getting a dissey. Now at night it is thought by some a 'no go area' primarily down to young people at McDonald's KFC eateries and Cathouse Club proximity along with alcohol drugs in the wee sma hours. During the day it is fine albeit it has its characterful moments. The magnificent Boots the Chemists building at the corner of Union Street and Argyle Street - Dissys Corner - the actual locus beneath the giant clock. Remarkably bright and modern. It sadly didn't survive.Boots Corner is long gone and what remains is arguably in a state of flux. The commercial certainties of old no longer apply. This then, at late night is depicted by Political Parties as a No Go Area. As a life long Glasgow resident - I firmly dispute this characterisation allowing you keep your wits about you and do not readily place yourself in the middle of drunken rammy's [fights or robust disputes between intoxicated parties] it isn't Times Square and as such your hotel at Midnight is best, perhaps riding a cab safely there. 🙂
