The 3 stages of the antihero vigilante, in 3 movies:
#DeathWish: He catches random people off guard, and kills them.
#DeathWish2: He randomly runs into the specific people he already wanted to kill, then kills them.
#DeathWish3: He becomes an unkillable trigger-happy superhero - like #ThePunisher. Ⓐ

Saw #DeathWish3 - another #DeathWish film that once again has music provided by #JimmyPage. Well, now I know what Jim was doing after #LedZeppelin broke up - making unimpressive soundtracks for bad action movies. Congrats, Jim. Ⓐ

Unlike the original #DeathWish, in #DeathWishII the antihero vigilante fatally punishes the criminals who raped/killed his PTSD daughter and maid. But he DOES NOT track them down. He finds them in chance encounters - simply by randomly wandering around the tiny city of #LosAngeles at night. Ⓐ

Sample dialogue in the original #DeathWish:
#WhiteMan: “[The vigilante’s] a racist. …he kills more blacks than whites.”
#WhiteWoman: “More blacks are muggers than whites.”
#Terry: “Madame, you’re doing something most people overlook, when they see this movie. You are expressing THE FILM’S stance.” Ⓐ

In closing, the original #DeathWish is boring, racist, and shitty. As an anarchist - the film’s politics disgust me. The film is regarded as a “classic”, but there are WAY better “rape and revenge” movies than this one - like #Ms45, #ThrillerACruelPicture, and #ISpitOnYourGrave3VengeanceIsMine. Ⓐ

The only two elements in the original #DeathWish that impressed me:
1. The onscreen savagery of the home invasion, and
2. After committing the home invasion, the dudes responsible are never seen again in the movie. The antihero vigilante never gets to punish them (though he kills a ton of people). Ⓐ

I must say this about the original #DeathWish. The rape and beatings near the start of the film are surprisingly graphic (and effectively filmed) for a 1970s #Hollywood movie. That scene is brief, but will leave most viewers unsettled (even in this jaded day and age). Ⓐ

Also, in the original #DeathWish - the antihero vigilante is ALMOST ALWAYS emotionally flat/detached. This is a vigilante NOT driven by rage and passion. For him, his addiction to violence progresses painfully slowly. Eventually, the more vicious/bloodthirsty he becomes - the more he gets off. Ⓐ

OF COURSE the antihero in the original #DeathWish is (initially) a bleeding heart liberal. OF COURSE when his loved ones become victims of crime - his politics/empathy goes out the window. The FILM endorses the murder of criminals, the FILM argues liberals are naive pussies and the FILM is racist. Ⓐ

Saw #DeathWish (the original). And I find it incredible I never saw any of the Death Wish movies before - until today! It’s about an old male antihero, who entices muggers to mug him. When they menace him, he repays their kindness - by politely blowing their brains out. Ⓐ

We're catching up on a lot, but wanted to offer condolences to Gerrit Graham's family at this time. He was a marvelous screen presence, and his role as Quinn in #StarTrekVoyager is an all-time guest performance in an all-time great #StarTrek episode. #Restinpeace sir!

.... and #Zakharova is right once again...
The #EU and #NATO is completely down with #Russophobia - it's ridiculous. It's dangerous. It's a stupid #deathwish.

This Boss Fight Stamp is RIDICULOUS!

I am SO excited for *Death Wish* to be out in the world this January. @lillyluwrites.bsky.social is a brilliant writer, and if you have read any of her short fiction, you already know this is one to preorder. Cannot wait! #DeathWish #BookSky #SapphicRomance
