How could such a charming, handsome sword ever be evil? :]

Cropped drawing of Datusha, a keris-shaped sword whose golden lines and two black dots near the hilt resemble a dorky smile.

#WIPSnips 13. "Distract(ed)"

Not an easy enemy to beat, this one...

Unable to answer, Ashrah studied her enemies. Two other Nether-Touched composed the band, one with a gorgon-like tail and the other with pincers as hands and spikes running along their spine. Aside from the qsultar, the azahnu had also enthralled one afrizzt, three sfivh that must have survived the purging at Sybyk, a malcyn, a couple of insignificant imps, and a half a dozen oni wielding bows similar to Thurnull’s and curved swords dangling from their waists.

A small battle, considering all the wars Ashrah had won. Distracted as it was, the azahnu might not even notice her until she recovered Datusha and plunged it into its throbbing brain. And with her sword, eliminating the rest would be easy.

“This isn’t the time for dashing acts, wielder. You may think the azahnu is too absorbed in its study of me to pay attention to anything else, but that’s not how their brains work. They’re too sophisticated for such blunders, their awareness extending far beyond the boundaries of common minds.”

#WIPSnips 8. "Mental"

Ashrah wields Datusha's psychic magic for the first time 🧠

Blue spectres shimmered before her, revealing enemies lost in the mist, exposed to the slaughter. It was almost dishonourable how easy it would be.

Chakrams whirled ahead of her, chopping the heads off two skeletons, the rest of the bones disintegrating under the touch of Tahrmun. Alarun coloured the grey, and through her enhanced senses, Ashrah watched Smoke stabbing a hellhound before rolling away, in mist form, from the orc’s crushing fist. As it chased the mortal across the fog, Ashrah fired a mental ring that pierced the beast’s feeble mind. It began walking in circles, waving its arms, chasing an imaginary target while Smoke watched from a safe distance, scratching his head.

“You’re having fun, aren’t you?” Datusha quipped.

Ashrah allowed herself the briefest moment of self-satisfaction before bringing her sword down on a dazzled hellhound.

#WIPSnips 3. “Effective”

What’s better than a sapient, psychic sword? A sapient, psychic sword that doubles as a key!

“Amazing.” Ashrah may not read emotions as efficiently as she read runes, but Sareena’s tone expressed the opposite of her celebratory remark. And that indifference irritated Ashrah. “Can your spiritual buddies get us through this?”

“You don’t need the spirits,” Datusha sneered, its contempt directed towards the Nether-Touched. “Just stab the sigil.”

Are you certain?

“This is divine craft. A convoluted sort, which is highly effective against intruders, even Archdevils, but not against this form of mine. A sword? Yes. The best. But sometimes a key as well.”
