On the face of it, the two #MinCup26 finalists seem kinda samey at the atom-level. But #Cuprite has interpenetrating networks of atoms and is magnetic - it deserves you vote and the 2026 crown over stoic #Quartz

That's hard! Amazing #quartz - so ubiquitous, so many uses - deserves to win #MinCup26 but I have a sneaking fondness for my local minerals. This is an example of the chalcotrichite variety from Old Gunnislake Mine in the Tamar Valley.

Every time #Quartz has been in the #MinCup finals, it’s been against a mineral with the composition X₂O.

This is particularly funny as ice and #Cuprite are the only two minerals with this composition, & ice took #MinCup19.
