Our Housing Advice Manager talks about Preventing Homelessness: The Renters’ Right Act 2025 came into force on 01 May 2026. Within one day, we received our first notice seeking to rely on ground 1A (property to be sold). It was notable for being the first cases we dealt with under the new Act, but also the fact that the landlord was pressurising our client to leave and they felt harassed. The notice did not provide the correct notice period and was not in the correct format. We removed the threat of homelessness for our client and their family and we asked the landlord to desist from pressuring them to leave. Our client has heard nothing since.
