A vertical mixed-media portrait centers on a solemn, androgynous figure shown from the chest upward against a heavily worked blue-gray background. Their eyes are closed and their hands are pressed together beneath the chin in a prayer-like gesture. Above the forehead floats an enormous ornate gold crown, densely covered with pearls, colored gemstones, miniature medallions, filigree, and tall pointed arches. Several golden starbursts hang or float above it on delicate chains, extending toward the top edge of the composition. Long streams of gold, blue, pink, red, and black paint drip downward from the crown, crossing the figure's face and body like a translucent curtain. Broad passages of turquoise, deep blue, cream, peach, orange, and hot pink paint surround the portrait, layered with scratches, splatters, loose looping lines, and exposed brushwork. Fragmented female faces emerge from the painted surface at upper left and upper right, while smaller obscured portrait fragments appear near the lower corners. The realistic central face contrasts sharply with the tactile, chaotic abstraction surrounding it, giving the image the appearance of a devotional portrait partially buried beneath paint, jewels, memory, and ornament.
