I rated The Night of the Hunter (1955) 10/10 #IMDb

2nd watch
Pure American Gothic, iconic in every way. A morality tale of good and light vs. Dark and evil.
Visually Stunning
Robert Mitchum inhabits the evil Harry Powell (based on Serial
Killer Harry Power).

Race With the Devil: super fun, tense guilty pleasure
The Sentinel: wasted cast
The Duelists: beautiful baroque images
Deadly blessing: fine early Craven

Maybe I can get some help this way: "Hey Criterion Channel, you updated your app and now I can't stream any of your titles on Roku!"

I rated The Wraith (1986) 6/10 #IMDb

I’ve seen 75% of this on TV for the last 30yrs. Finally saw all and it didn’t do much to impress. For an 80s Car action/supernatural/teen movie it checks a lot of boxes but other than nostalgia? Charlie Sheen looks healthy?

Like Diablo Cody, I too was obsessed with ponytailed dorkhunk Tony Little working his “BUTTTT-TOXXXX” on a Gazelle® every night at 3 AM. Weed or no weed, I still laugh to tears every time I see him. #JennifersBody #31DaysOfHorror #CriterionChannel

I rated The Hit (1984) 8/10 #IMDb

Simple tale of human nature and how things never go to plan.
Terrence Stamp is phenomenal as the “grass” who calmly accepts fate…John Hurt is the senior Hitman and Tim Roth is the newbie. Great Spanish cinematography.

I rated The 39 Steps (1935) 9/10 #IMDb

Early Hitchcock adaptation of the John Buchan novel. Mysterious spies, murder, chased by the police, the Scottish Highlands, trains, romance and humour.
Robert Donat is superb as wrongfully accused Richard Hannay

The Criterion Channel has a new collection of “Highway Horror” films for October and The Hitcher starring Rutger Hauer is featured. Check it out!

#rutgerhauer #thehitcher #criterionchannel #highwayhorror

Is anyone else watching the Highway Horror series on #criterionchannel? I am particularly excited to watch Hitcher, a movie I saw at like 6 years old and never quite forgot but also can't quite remember, all I know is it made an impression.

Watching SALEM’S LOT (1978?ish), it’s this all star cast of TV show and character actors from the early 80s. Some real mugging going on with the town drunk. It’s the least Maine that Hollywood has ever shot for Maine. Terrified me as a kid! 📽️

#criterionchannel

what an ending! and some of the best car crash stunt-work of the period, period

and who doesn’t love seeing Captain America get some payback
