A close, warmly lit still life centers on a freshly pressed crimson wax seal lying across overlapping sheets of aged, wrinkled paper. The glossy red wax has spread irregularly beyond the circular impression, forming a thick pool with a narrow drip extending toward the bottom of the image. Pressed into its center is an intricate heraldic bird with outstretched wings, surrounded by a raised circular border. Above and slightly left of the seal rests the dark wooden handle of a traditional sealing stamp. Its round brass base faces the viewer at an angle, still carrying traces of red wax and catching small highlights along its worn metal rim. Beneath and around both objects, pale parchment fills the frame with torn edges, creases, folds, and faint handwritten lines disappearing softly out of focus toward the upper left. Deep shadows gather beneath the stamp while amber illumination washes across the paper and reflects from the wax, giving the scene the intimate appearance of an old letter that has only just been sealed.
