Canada has a new Correctional Investigator. David Paradiso, deputy ombudsperson at B.C.'s Ombudsperson's office since 2014, starts Oct. 13 as the independent watchdog for federal prisons.
A coroner’s inquest is currently under way in Burnaby into the 2021 death of Kendal Campeau, a Yellow Quill First Nation member who died in federal custody in Abbotsford. Depending on its findings, the jury may make recommendations to prevent similar deaths.
