A tight, top-down macro shot of a Fascicularia bicolor rosette. Spiky, long leaves radiate outwards, showing bright green at their bases and fiery crimson along their lengths. At the centre sits a circular, honeycomb-like crown of tube-shaped florets. The outer ring of tubes is warm brown and dusky purple, while the inner core glows with powdery sky-blue and lavender florets tipped with tiny flecks of golden pollen. The lighting is diffused and even, emphasizing the contrast between the cold blue core and warm red foliage.

Alongside a hiker-biker trail in Lewes, DE, is a big swath of American pokeweed (Phytolacca americana), which is native to Delaware and the broader eastern United States. For many, the berries are the focus — for me, it is those hot pink stems! #gardendc #pokeweed #coolplants #nativeplants
