Your Content Should Be Recognisable at a Glance

A consistent shape lets people identify your post before they read the name. That recognition is compounding.

Your Content Should Be Legible on a Phone

Almost nobody reads you on a desktop. Short paragraphs, plain words, no wall of text.

If readers must decode your jargon before understanding your message, you've created a barrier. Accessibility starts with language.

Here's a little book I wrote... you might want to follow it, note by note. You won't worry; you'll be happy (when your intranet's task-based and user-centred). 😀

Tone of voice, encoded. Donum reads how you write. Then it writes like you. No more 'AI voice'. Your voice. Every report sounds like you wrote it. #Donum #AIProductivity #SaaS #BrandVoice #ContentDesign donum.app

What have content designers ever done for users?

#ContentDesign #UXWriting

A 7-panel cartoon titled 'What have content designers ever done for users?', a parody of the 'What have the Romans ever done for us?' scene from Monty Python's Life of Brian. A man in a blazer stands in front of 5 colleagues sitting on tiered wooden steps in an office.

Panel 1: The man asks, 'What have content designers ever done for users?'

Panel 2: A woman in a mustard jumper answers, 'We've helped people find answers.'

Panel 3: The man folds his arms and says, 'Right. Apart from helping people find answers, what have content designers ever done for users?' A man in glasses answers, 'We've made information easier to understand.'

Panel 4: Rubbing his eyes, the man says, 'Fine. Apart from helping people find answers and making information easier to understand, what have content designers ever done for users?' A woman in a rust top answers, 'We've made tasks easier to complete.'

Panel 5: Clutching his head, the man says, 'Ok, ok. Apart from helping people find answers, making information easier to understand and making tasks easier to complete, what have content designers ever done for users?' Another colleague answers, 'We've made the next step clear.'

Panel 6: Slumped on a stool with his head in his hands, the man shouts, 'All right! Apart from helping people find answers, making information easier to understand, making tasks easier to complete and making the next step clear, what have content designers ever done for users?' The group cheer with their arms raised, and the woman in the rust top answers, 'We've made content more accessible.'

Panel 7: The man lies face down on the floor, pointing a finger, and asks, 'Ok, but what have you ever done for the business?' The group fold their arms and answer together, 'We've saved this company time and money.'

Yesterday someone asked me a really great question about my pathways courses: “Does the content overlap or would it be helpful to do both?"

I said it's helpful to do both. They cover different areas, with #UserCentredDesign as the umbrella and #ContentDesign as, one could say, a single spoke. ☂️💻

As a public servant, I write weekly notes to let people see what I do.

I welcomed 5 new starters – 3 #userResearch ers and 2 #contentDesign ers – to the team in week 227.

I co-ran a product review session with a justice service and helped prepare upcoming #ServiceStandard peer reviews.
